It's supposed to be on BE Network but I can't find it anywhere.

oops, it's WVU at Pitt on BE Network and it's on SNY in NYC. Pitt is already down 10 early, but at least they appear to be fighting.

ND wins 76-43. Box Score - Link

While not unexpected since they were playing Nova, ND again wins the Free Throw Battle.
They shoot 29 and make 24 compared to 2 of 6 free throws for Nova. Its amazing how every game they always shoot considerably more free throws then their opponent.

Novosel was 8-8 FTs. She really has mastered the lean-into-the-defender-and-throw-it-up offensive strategy.

This accomplishment will be sorely tested against Tenn on Monday night. I know who'd win that battle if the game were in Knoxville. We'll see what happens in South Bend.

I did not think TN was particularly effective at drawing fouls. They are not particularly prone to dribble penetration on offense, are they?

My point is that Tenn has been pretty successful in drawing more fouls than its opponents over the years, including this year. ND has been able to do same thing both last year and this year. But no, this year Tenn hasn't drawn a lot of fouls on dribble penetration; most have been drawn by its post players (Johnson and Baugh).

OK, thanks. It will be interesting to see if the normally foul prone Peters has difficulty staying in this game.

I just looked at the stats for ND, Tenn and UConn. As has been discussed a great deal, ND has been more successful than both teams in drawing fouls and getting to the line, although it also commits more fouls than both teams. Here are the numbers:

ND has drawn 420 fouls while committing 357.
ND has attempted 530 FTs while its opponents have attempted 357.

Tenn has drawn 330 fouls while committing 267
Tenn has attempted 410 FT while its opponents have attempted 265.

UConn has drawn 297 fouls while committing 251.
UConn has attempted 322 FTs while its opponents have attempted 240.

Thanks, Cat. Very interesting. I guess TN leads in free throw "margin percentage" which is a bit of a surprise to me, since there is nothing about the way they play that would lead one to expect that. Unlike ND, who makes it obvious that they want to draw fouls by having Novasel and others dribble drive.

Drawing fouls is one area that KML needs to improve on. She's similar to Maya in that regards. Hopefully KML will do a better job of drawing fouls by her senior year then Maya did.

In her current role, she doesn't spend a ton of time taking shots that will draw fouls. However, they are already posting her up from time to time, and Geno intimated in the last Geno Show that perhaps they should do that more. If she plays more inside, the fouls will come. She did succeed on getting knocked on her butt on a drive last night, so that's a start. :)

Plus she needs to learn the ND technique of jumping into people.
