in connection with my company, which supports government DOD contracts, I listened on an audio report from the CDC. Their representative said there were over 110,000 covd-19 cases in the world to date. That, contrary (my word for emphasis, not that of the presenter ) to media reports and counts, 19 people have died in the US to date, 18 in Washington state (largely centered in one elderly care facility) and 1 in California. My understanding is that the conference call was in response to the numbers provided above but that is second hand information. While they were reported by the CDC, they seem ridiculous at face value. The virus seems to follow a bell curve, that is, new cases that climb steadily, peak, and then decline seemingly just as steadily. Hopefully this is true, and while I would agree cases in the US have undoubtedly not peaked, the 150 million number just does not make sense when compared to the number globally. Data out of China is suspect to say the least but it does appear that new cases there have declined. Amazon has announced plans for the re-opening of their stores there, and I would hope, emphasize hope, they are responsible enough to have some real data showing that conditions there have changed to support their decision. As far as projected deaths in the US, China reports they have had 3,000+ deaths. So let’s assume they have understated that by a factor of 100. So the number becomes 300,000. I think even they would have a hard time suppressing such a number but let’s assume they have; the US is going to have 3+ times the number China has, with a superior health care system and facilities and significantly less people? My point is that, unfortunately, like everything in this country, this situation has become media-ized and politicized to the point where truth and common sense, unity and working for the common good have become afterthoughts if they are “any thoughts”. I hope all and theirs stay safe and we get through this, unfortunately I have given up the idea of doing it together, unfortunately, it seems we have already “chosen up sides” and I think this crisis probably proves we are beyond the point of our “leadership“ pulling themselves and us together. If I have violated the rules regarding political posts, I apologize. I am taking no sides and hopefully, that makes my post acceptable.
