Some of the Rankings aren't as good as what we expect from a UConn team.

Defense Ranked 92nd.
Turnover Margin 62
Turnovers Forced 100

UConn has played the toughest schedule and some of the stats are definitely impacted by the teams UConn played.

That is a fun read but WCBB is filled with player's who can't shoot (or make room to shoot) at all. Similar results occur when you look up the results from previous years for games in NOV before conference play

Stats at this point are meaningless as teams are playing very different strength schedules. I posted the following on the undefeated teams thread which is just a small sample. Teams in the top ten are blowing away teams that will be in the 300+ rankings by 40-60+ points so both their offensive numbers and defensive numbers will look very impressive until they start playing teams that are actually pretty good. Uconn has a front loaded schedule so the games have been much more competitive. When they get into conference play things will begin to even out.

Sagarin schedule rank added to the list of unbeatens. (Yeah, I know their numbers are suspect this time of year but still pretty indicative.)
Ball St. - 256
Fl St. - 127
Kansas - 315
Miss St - 73
Navy - 342
New Mexico - 218
USC - 206
Syracuse - 220
TN - 99
TX - 126
UC Davis - 251
Villanova - 71
West VA - 94
Louisville - 9
Uconn - 3

A little tighter, a little less polished - in all slightly below the stats for the past five full years. And some of this is surely impacted by the timing of the analysis - seven games against primarily top ten teams and not impacted by the conference schedule and the continued cohesive melding of what is a new team despite the number of continuing starters. Players are playing differently than last year, they are mixed in with players not yet on the same page (works either way too).

So - WHO, ME WORRY?? NOPE

Nice.
As you say, even within the world of Uconn where schedule strength is pretty consistent, the actual teams played pre-exam break varies greatly.

Last thought - for all but the ND game, Uconn could pretty well choose the point differential based on the number of minutes played by the extended bench. This is the first extensive bench Uconn has had in quite a number of years so there are a lot more minutes being played with no starters on the court.

I

Isn't that always so? What is the typical Defense Rank? Last year?

Thanks for pasting those. A few things to keep in mind:
1. Last year you had no depth which meant the best players were on the court the vast majority of the time and played higher quality basketball in garbage time. With a deeper bench and several inexperienced freshmen, Geno is resting his starters in the 4th and the newbies are letting other teams close the margin and improve their stats. It doesn’t affect the outcome but statistically it makes UCONN look worse compared to previous years. A more representative statistical analysis would be looking at Connecticut’s averages after 3 quarters since 90% of the time the game is over after 3 quarters and in Q4 all that’s undecided is final margin.

2. You’ve played a loaded schedule to start this year and the cushy schedule is coming. That’s where UCONN will regularly blitz teams by 40-50. The defensive numbers will surely improve against lesser competition. There are a lot of really good teams left on the schedule, but most games will be against poor competition and stats should sky rocket. Most other top 10 teams are in an opposite scenario where they’ve only played 1-2 competitive games but will be challenged more in conference play.
