The BE is 11-5 so far in the tournament. To date they have earned 20 units. The BE is the only conference to ever earn 20 units or more in the tournament. 24 units in 2009 and 22 units last year. Last year the BE earned 5.3M in the tournament,(this will be paid out each of the next 6 years starting this year) last year the BE received 24.9M from the NCAA. Compare this to the ACC. The ACC earned 2.6M last year and was paid 18.2 M from the NCAA. With the BE units getting larger each year, the revenue from the NCAA will continue to grow and the spread between the other conferences will get larger. Also note Cuse, Pitt, and W.V. will forfeit their shares when they leave the conference.( approx 10M each which is spread over 6 years)

16 teams though as opposed to 12 teams. Big difference. 25/16 and 18/12.

The Big East does well in a large part because it is so consistently good. The ACC is down to 2 teams now, having gone 5-3. If neither make the Final Four, this will be a really light year for the ACC. The Big 10 will make a killing, the Pac 12 basically whiffed two years in a row.

There will be 5 more mouths to feed though. Temple and Memphis do well in the regular season but have to raise their game in the Tournament. I don't see Houston, SMU or UCF bringing anything to the table for a while.

Aside from the new mouths to feed, it seems like daddy (the Big East) needs to help pony up for a debutant ball (Villanovas football facilities)... :)

all the new teams will most likely receive zero shared the first two years, 50% the third and 100% the 4th. this is typical of transferred teams. also the BE will be dividing the pie by just 13 teams for awhile once cuse, pit, and wv leave. since expansion the ACC has actually dropped in credits even while adding teams. so they are now dividing by 12 teams. they actually earned more units with 9 teams.
I believe this is why they added cuse and pit. not for football but for basketball. also the BE earned more revenue from the NCAA then from the BCS, however there are more teams to divide up these revenues.

What are these units you speak of? The only units I'm familiar with are Hilton units.

The 2011 BCS payout was 17 million, divided by 8 teams.
Or 2.1 per team.
NCAA 25 million divided by 16 teams.
1.5 per team.
Football also usually has other bowl money in the pot.
Pinstripe Bowl 1.8
Belk Bowl 1.7
liberty 1.7

Like the NCAA which awards more money to teams that advnace. BE football puts a premium on the teams that do better awarding higher money for a higher BE finish.

So the true money in the BE football bowl pool was 22.2 million for 2011. or 2.7 per team.

Got the numbers here http://www.collegefootballpoll.com/bowl_games_bowl_schedule.html

A unit in the NCAA tournament is earned for every game you play in the tournament. A team can earn a max. of 5 units in any one year. Last year a unit was worth 240k and is paid out in the following six years. So this year the BE will be paid for the units they earned in 2006-2011. Each year the value of a unit increases. This year value has not been stated but we do know that so far the BE has earned 20 units so far.
