As a result, we're seeing a lot of pre-college changes of commitments and then transfers. The vote was for this act to take place immediately, so there wouldn't be a crash/rush to sign kids before the rule takes place. The only thing that could derail it is if the NCAA Board of Directors delays it in late April, but that is not expected. Once again, this is for the sport of lacrosse only. While some coaches will study ways to get around this, the vote is a way to put some kind of a sanity clause around recruiting, for both kids and coaches. To paraphrase [I]Dave Pietramala, the Johns Hopkins Men's Coach, [/I]he's managing two teams right now from freshmen to seniors: the team at JHU and the one he's trying to get there. With this rule, he can cut that in half in high school. Hopefully other sports -- like women's basketball -- are paying attention to see how this plays out. Yeah, I know the AAU has outside power here, but lacrosse travel teams and tournaments are part of the issue as well. And the coaches took those on. One of the main proponents of this was the[I] Duke Women's Coach, Kerstin Kimel[/I], and I liked the last quote she had in the attached interview: "... it’s going to help families and kids be kids for a little bit longer. Hopefully we have more kids playing multiple sports. It takes the edge off of all the pressure to do all of the things that kids have felt like they’ve had to do over the past few years."
