Hope the P5 eats their lunch and leaves. They deserve to be dissolved.

The NCAA has placed Cal Poly on two years of probation and will force the school to vacate regular season and conference tournament records in "most of its sports programs" after an investigation concluded the school did not properly monitor its book scholarship program.

In a 21-page report released Thursday, the NCAA said Cal Poly provided cash stipends of $800, intended for books and academic supplies, to 265 student-athletes between 2012 and 2015 that did not equal the cost of the items. The investigation determined these cash stipends resulted in 30 student-athletes exceeding their financial aid limits by an average of $174.57.

"Several student-athletes used the book stipend to pay for items that were not related to required books or supplies such as food, rent, utilities and car repairs," the report said. "On an individual basis, for those student-athletes who received cash that exceeded the cost of books and supplies, the value of the overages ranged from $5 to $734 and totaled $16,180."

Un-freaking-believable.

You can't make this stuff up. Unfortunately for Cal-Poly, they don't get the same kind of TV ratings as the toilet bowls known as UNC, Puke, Kansas, Loserville and Kentucky. If you don't make money for the NCAA, you become a convenient target. Vacated wins? You've got to be kidding with this horseshit.

It's really like the organization is thumbing its collective nose at the entire non-P5 college sports athletic world. They have 3 rule books -- One for the anointed few institutions, one for most everyone else, and one for UConn and apparently, CalPoly.

I think that was MIT, another place that puts athletics above academic achievement

The bitter irony here is that they're hammering a school that actually takes academics seriously, which is theoretically what the NCAA is supposed to be all about.

Wait. Wasn't the NCAA considered an authoritative source when UCONN was trying to avoid paying KO the money it agreed to pay him? Should I now consider the NCAA charges against him to be a joke as well? Oh, I see. That's different.

You guys really need to let this UNC thing go. The NCAA didn't do anything about the fake classes at UNC because the NCAA has no authority to judge academic standards. That authority was deliberately withheld from the NCAA because university presidents didn't want the NCAA playing in that sandbox. You may not like it, but there it is.
