If they do this they need to cap (20 sounds like a good number) the length of a conference season. Without that, it will merely allow the SEC & B1G to to continue to claim superiority without facing a lot of non conference opponents.

The Big Ten wants to go to a 22-game schedule. The SEC refuses to move off of an 18-game schedule.

It's not a increase of 5-6 games, it's an increase of ONE.

No idea what you're talking about. Your title suggests they are increasing the number of allowed games by 5-6. That is not true.

If teams are allowed to play 32 games, without 3 of them having to be in an MTE, Dan Hurley will like it but it could be the death knell for Maui and the other MTE's because the little MTE paydays will be supplanted by much latger paydays.

How you might ask?

Three more home games with cupcakes, OR two more home and home series with major competition, OR two or three more special games in arenas like MSG will bring in major revenue and show off the brand around the country.

Would be good for us, since Hurley has sworn off 3 team MTEs and we wouldn't get to play 31 unless we played in a 4 or 8 team MTE.

They're becoming professional leagues. And the season will be tied to the programming needs of the conference networks, rather than the academic year. It's only a matter of time before the NCAA tourney moves to May or June.

Just stop. Seriously! It just means more Maryland eastern shore and Texas Southerns. Plus May Madness dosnt have the same ring.

OTOH, if the replaced the meaningless league tournaments with meaningful games it might work.

Lmaoo clearly you didn't read the article. All this is doing is removing the need to be in a MTE in order to get more than 30 games in a season. Last 3 years we've played 31 regular season games. Nothing is going to change by being able to play 32

This makes sense in the NIL era. I personally think the season should be way longer. Maybe 40 games, around half an NBA schedule. The off season is so long! Its; like 7-8 months till we see another game. No reason we can’t start the season earlier or go a little later.

I don’t like how they have a different game limit if you play in a tournament. Like Hurley, I’m not a fan of tournaments, since we didn’t go to Maui intending to play Colorado.

Heck, we nearly ended up playing a horrid Louisville team in the Empire Tournament championship in 2023, since they ended up playing their best game of the season and lost by 1 point on a buzzer beater to Texas in the first round of the tournament.

If you shift it either direction the offseason is still going to be just as long, just ending at a different time
