NCAA has issued yet another amended notice of allegations, saying the sham classes constituted "extra benefits" for MBB players from 2002 to 2011. UNC has 90 more days to respond, will fight on procedural technicalities. Hearing is "months away."

UNC again faces NCAA extra-benefits charge

Rutgers also received one of these notices this week. Can we expect heavy sanctions/penalties for UNC and Rutgers in the near future?

UNC really screwed up big time which means Rutgers is in danger of a death penalty!:cool:
(Isn't that what's written into the NCAA bylaws!)

Rutgers NOA is also related to academics. In this case a now departed football coach talking to players' teachers from what I understand.

Their football team is doing so well, they have obviously figured how to beat the system.

Only one instructor, however, one is enough. He was suspended for 3 games when RU found out and subsequently fired - RU will spin it that he was fired for that and not for being a lousy coach. He was extremely stupid.

Other violations included a not properly trained / supervised student host / hostess who remained in contact with the recruit (that'a a no-no) and procedures regarding drug tests not properly followed.

RU responded that they hired an ethics specialist as AD, fired the football coach, fired the director of sports medicine, hired new compliance personnel, etc.

I suspect RU football will have some additional sanctions, I suspect RU's corrective actions will be found appropriate.

Silvia was in it up to her ears. Half the women's bballers were enrolled in the phony classes. No way could she not have known about it.

I am mildly amused, amid the disgust, when a coach claims to have known nothing about such misdeeds. Having spent several years in close contact with WBB and a very good coach, I know from that experience how coaches micro-monitor the players' academic affairs and monitor their courses, grades, progress, test scores, and student-faculty relationships. Any coach's denial of this just rings false with me. You can't be a power-wielding control freak and then claim you were merely a disinterested spectator.
