>>UConn Head Coach Bob Diaco Opening Statement

“I’d like to credit Navy. As I had anticipated, they lived up to being the best team that we have played so far. It was and is the strongest Navy offense that I have had the opportunity to watch at least over the last seven or eight years. They have 19 or 20 seniors in their offensive two-deep. So, they don’t miss a read, they don’t miss a fit or a window. They did that at least for the first half until our guys had a chance to settle in. But credit to Navy, they are a great team and I anticipate them winning a bunch of games here. We wish them the best, they are a class outfit and their coaching staff does a great job.

I would like to thank all of UConn Country and all the fans that came out today. The stadium was filled and filling, loud and energetic. When you pull into the lot at 7:15 a.m. and there is already a collection of people there … it’s just awesome to see.

The players are resolved to turning this thing into a winner. I know it’s tough to hear after a loss, but it’s true. I believe you guys are seeing the DNA and the culture of our team, in alignment with the University and the State. You are seeing tough gentlemen and classy character. You are seeing great effort and contact toughness and passion and energy. You are seeing a group that loves to play football. We have come a long way in that area. The guys stick to it in the face of adversity.

There is some great, great stuff. We just need to execute better to beat a great team.

As coaches, we need to help them do a better job and we will. We are executing better than we ever have but we just need to take that next step.

I’m proud of the way they fought and we can build off of that.”<<

It's getting harder not to like this guy. I really think the wins will come.

More Fuller:http://runwayramblings.blogspot.com/2015/09/reynolds-navy-too-much-for-uconn.html

>>The good news is that after playing triple-option teams in two of the last two weeks, there is just one such team on UConn's schedule in the next three seasons as the Huskies play at Navy next season but Army is not on the schedule again and there are no UConn/Navy games during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Even next year's game will feature a much younger Navy squad and without Reynolds at the controls.<<

This made me laugh - I'm sure he'll be heading to confession tomorrow morning:

>>Diaco had chances to second guess some of the officiating calls but choose not to go that route. "I feel good about them," Diaco said. "They are fantastic, they are as good as any group as there is in the country. I have the utmost confidence in the decisions they make."<<

Navy will win 8-10 games this year and will be one of the 2-3 best teams UConn plays this year.

ECU played Florida to the wire and beat VT yesterday. Navy blew them out.

This year's Navy team is loaded with Seniors too. They execute the option perfectly. I'm amazed Reynolds' health holds up with the beating he takes.

By the time Navy finished their second drive I knew this was a loss. No way UConn was stopping them and UConn still can't score TD's at a high volume.

Progress is being made but right now if an opponent scores 25 points, it's a loss for UConn.

Looked at the highlight replay and on the final play/sack we had 3 guys blocking one and 2 LB's ran between Knappe who was blocking his man and Samra who was helping triple team a D-lineman. What is up with this problem from a senior?

Samra seems to be having a tough year. Pass blocking doesn't seem to be his strength. In fact our left side of the line does a better job week to week pass blocking than does our right side of the line. The run blocking by Knappe and Samra hasn't been too bad though.

The Family Day events were handled poorly. First I felt the band player too long, considering they planned to have an event after the game. Then there was a mad dash for the footballs and it looked like some people (Adults, not kids) thought they could keep them. One guy had three footballs under his arm and not playing catch with anyone. Meanwhile my son didn't get to play with a football until there was 3 minutes left. Luckily he is only 3 and has the commensurate attention span. After a few minutes he started to have fun just running up and down the field.

C'est la vie. A for effort, D for execution.

Yeah ... whoever scheduled the after game event for the kids may have meant well, but didn't do their homework.

The band plays the same post game routine almost every single game for alumni and fans who specifically stay to watch and enjoy. I don't know how they could have shortened their routine ... and it would have been poor taste to ask them to. They have post game traditions that remain since at least the 80's when I first noticed them.

As is tradition, they put down their instruments to sing the Alma Mater, along with many UCMB alumni. The kids started sprinting on to the field running thru and jumping over the instruments. NOT COOL AT ALL ... for the kids safety and the potential damage to the instruments.

I wonder if the organizers should have made the families aware of the post game traditions. The kids seemed pretty patient for a while ... right up to the sprint onto the field. Hopefully they learned something and incorporate their experiences next year.

The kids were absolutely getting impatient and they were allowed on the pavement surrounding the field. I don't remember if they were allowed to start running for the balls or if it was an in prompt to stampede. It also seemed like some of the band members weren't aware of the family event just left their instruments on the field where they stood. Seems there was poor communication on more than one front.

I do think some notice should have been given about the band and how long the performance is. I know the band plays after every game, but 97% of the stadium empties and doesn't partake. It's very easy to forget this happens every game. They also needed to set out a more organized way of disbursing the balls and probably only allowed people to enter the field from one point instead of 3 of the 4 corners.

When did you finally jump off the P bandwagon? Bob messed up, he's admitted it. There's about six threads on the poor stadium operations. Get your head out of the sand and stop being happy with less than mediocre.

I'm sorry you don't think that was a winable game that a little extra planning would have made a huge difference, but don't troll people who think we can do better. You were thrilled with Saturday, I wasn't. If you don't like my opinion then feel free to ignore it. We've suffered 4 years going on 5 on pollyanna rationalizations. The team was good enough to win that game and the coaches refused to let them try.

If they don't knock it off, I'll see you in a few weeks when you come around.
