Who SHOULD win?
Not who do you think will win but who you think is most deserving.

NC State is the Rodney Dangerfield of this Board. They don't get no respect.

I couldn't include everyone. NCSt was expected to be really good, so I'm not sure their coaching performance was particularly remarkable. I would kinda say the same about SC & Stan, but SC at least has been #1 (mostly) all year, and I know some people consider her COY.

A lot of really good coaching jobs this year, but I think it has to be Kim. LSU was picked 8th in the SEC and they're top 10 in the country.
Not just top 10 -- they're #7 per the committee's latest reveal. Their national ranking is higher than their preseason SEC ranking!

Even those of us who expected her to have an immediate noticeable impact never dreamed they'd be #7 in the country right away.

NC State (and Wes Moore) are both awesome, but the Pack has more losses at this point in the season than they did last year (3 v. 2), although I think they’re a substantially better team this season than last — still a phenomenal job, but there have been some terrific coaching arcs this year.

I understand why some would tab Dawn; I’d personally go Mulkey or Finley. Both walked into bad situations and revamped their programs. The same can be said for OU’s coach, but Mulkey got LSU to 2nd in the conference and 6th nationally. I don’t know that anyone could have seen that coming this year. Can you imagine if LSU had Moon like they did initially?!

If Mulkey was some no name coach I would probably go in on her. I think Dawn has done a great job and managed the roster of talent well and has been consistent all season long despite the gauntlet of a schedule.

But I think I still have to go with Finley. She inherited a team and lost a star player to the transfer portal midseason with a team projected to go 11th with their star player. Despite that adversity as a rookie and mostly interim head coach she managed to get 5 top 25 wins and 20 regular season wins, with 10 of them coming in conference play.

... should be decided once when know who coaches their team to a national championship. Seems like the entire third act to this story hasn't even been written yet, no?

It’s voted before the Final Four

She clearly is one of the best coaches of her generation.

NC State played a much more challenging schedule this season. To have gone through THAT schedule with only 3 losses is remarkable. 14 points from being undefeated.

That being said...I voted for Kim Mulkey. What SHE did in her first season in Baton Rouge was also remarkable.

Mulkey has done a great job, no doubt. And, she is a tremendous coach. I think the turnaround is magnified because of what a terrible job coaching was being done by outgoing LSU coach, Nikki Fargas. Mulkey brought in 2-3 impact transfers? 2 are starters?

I'll go with Kim. Although I can only imagine what she will wear to accept it if she wins.
A woman in my bowling league wore some kind of funky pink-and-white horizontal stripe outfit that made her look like a piece of candy a few weeks ago. She was visible from one end of the bowling house to the other!

Does Kim own something that flamboyant?

Oh, I totally agree! I don’t think I worded my original post very well. NCST has had a great season and is very much a title threat. The coaching across WBB this year has been excellent and there are probably 5 or 6 coaches with legitimate NCOY cases. It comes down to splitting hairs (to the extent the award actually matters, which is debatable IMO) so I was just looking to provide a reason why Moore might not be in the core conversation.

NC State hung as tough as anyone with SC, beat Maryland and Indiana, and ran through the ACC outside of the road loss to ND. I like this Pack team and if SC falls they’ll be my personal choice to win it all.
