I live in Oklahoma City and went to Borders had a coffee and check some college football magazine and came across a Texas High school football future star magazine and NATE HOPKINS was mention as a future star.... A kid with next level size, speed and toughness.... I was WOW, we have a kid mentioned on Texas magazine....

Now I'm interested in this kid and see what he does and develops into a star.

I think Diaco knows exactly what he's doing with recruiting! He has a strategy and he's working it. Each year it seems he's ramping up the level of recruit he's going after...and getting commitments from. Nate may well be one of those diamonds in the rough. Looking forward to watching him develop his skills as a Husky!

A few years back we were the only offer for a Texas kid named Justin Forsett. He didn't commit. He waited it out and after signing day, Cal offered and he went there. He is entering his 8th season in the NFL and had a 1,000 yard season with the Ravens in 2014. So, these things can happen.

I remember that... was a big Forsett fan and thought he was destined to become a Husky... didn't happen... but we ended up with some pretty good backs anyways... .. nice to see he's having a pretty good playing career too...

I'm no longer fully subscribed to the rivals site, but there's an article on there that implies, from its title, that this year's recruiting class there's an expectation that they have a really good chance to see the field this upcoming season.. Not all of course, but sounds like it's staying the course of what Diaco's been doing since he's been here.. He's got kids playing as true frosh...

With that said, it'll be interesting to see how well/fast Hopkins, and Vickers for that matter, adjust to this level off football at RB for us... We didn't have much scholly depth at that spot.. now we do... some guys here seem to think 4 scholly backs are more than enough... IMO, no way.. FBS, big time , P5 level schools typically have at least 6... when you have that type of scholly depth (at all positions for that matter) makes for better practice preparation for game time situations...

He has a great highlight tape. Displaying both size and real burst through the hole. Vickers, Hopkins, Rose, Skanes and D. Williams look like they bring some serious athleticism. I haven't seen much on Herring or Coyle, but I'm optimistic there is something there as well. Then there are people are Hahn and Gilmartin that sound like potential leaders. And...Zecchino/Graham/Donaldson for the special teams upgrade.

The general rule of thumb for freshmen playing is the further they are from the ball, the better the chance of them playing.

Diaco definitely gave the WR's a chance last year. RJ and Newsome had the chance as true frosh too. Having actual proof of letting kids play helps in the recruiting game. Recruits can see it's more than just lip service.

I'd most expect to see Rose and Skanes, maybe a freshman DB getting in the mix a little...I like Hopkins but don't expect him to see the field. At the signing day event they mentioned that they'd like to get him up to a playing weight of 230-235 and he's listed at 210 on 247, which to me insinuates that they want him to have a redshirt year in order to bulk up.

Ironically, the incoming frosh with the best chance to see the field is a long snapper.

Yup.. that kid's father was the long snapper in college at Univ of Tenn... He's pretty much been groomed to do that job....

230 is massive for a running back why would they expect that

In Nate's high school district, the graduating classes go from a low of 900 students to a high of 1,600.

You have to be pretty good just to get on the field. And then if you're dominating those games, you know you're a special player.

My little senior class had about 225 students.

He has a really solid frame. If he's actually 210ish right now he can definitely afford another 15 lbs.

I say he caps out at 215-220lbs tops.. Once he gets in the Balis S&C program his body will probably get a little re-shaping... a little fat loss along with added muscle.. You don't want a Tailback that's too big..whatever wiggle he has you don't want him to lose it...
