UConn star point guard Shabazz Napier has got the goods. In his fourth year with the Huskies, the 6-foot 1-inch senior from Roxbury, Mass. has only improved. When considering the role the point guard plays for the Huskies, Napier easily distances himself from the competition as far as leadership and overall involvement in every facet of the game. Others might object, saying that there are too many AAC guards that play at a consistently like Napier, but overall, he is the genuine article, more than worthy of the honors he has received.
Overall, if he keeps up production through February and early March, there’s no doubt that Napier will be considered among the top players in the country. UConn has six more games in conference play (their next game is at Temple on February 20) to show everyone how complete of an all-around player he has become. If he can end the season with an exclamation mark, there will be no difficulty bandying about the idea of Napier being one of the Naismith Award’s top four finalists.
