The top ones that come to mind for me (among folks that might possibly be interested):
  • Jeff Walz
  • Dawn Staley
  • Katie Meier
  • maybe the TAMU assistant, but hard to move to a rival
  • maybe FGCU guy, but that's a pretty big jump
  • Tom Collen from Ark?
I'm kinda stumped beyond that. Are there really that few good young coaches?

Maybe Nell Fortner does have a chance after all.

EastTexastrash suggested Texas WNBA coach. Certainly more $ on TU, but from previous discussions here I have gleened that you really have to be a Texan to recruit effectively in Texas and I do not know a thing about him.

you do not have to be a Texan to recruit Texas. Just ask Mack Brown.

She's cool, she's likable, and she's a family woman, all of which would help.

She would, however, not be my first choice by any means.

Wonder if the Hartford coach might be tempted to move on at this point in her life? And if TX would consider her? Austin is a great town, whatever the money offered would be a ton more than she is making now.

Being the U18/U19 coach would be a great recruiting tool. Of course, if Jen takes a higher profile gig, the probably won't let her do it for that very reason.

TAMU assistant just took a mid major job somewhere down there, so he's not a candidate.

Mike Carey. Might as well go to Texas if he's gonna be in that conference anyway.

Miss State. And why not? Wouldn't be the first time someone took a job, got a better offer, and bolted.

I know she didn't want to leave earlier in her career (and family life) but time has passed, and Austin isn't really Texas. If they were interested they could offer her 5X what she is currently making and still be paying her less than GG was getting. That would build a nice college fund quickly. And ... for her, it would be perfect career timing - four or five years at a major program, and then be ready when another major program has an opening!

Knowing that CD has already said not interested she really would be an excellent fit. She has the charm and frankness that really would play well in Texas. She has long helped the Huskies be a team of tough minded basketball players and wonderful young women. If I was TX I would through a lot of money at her and try to make her an offer she couldn't refuse.

I would hire Marist's or Green Bay's coach, or Gonzaga's. The way those teams play is the way basketball should be played. And they don't have near the quality of athletes that a school like Texas could attract. Heck, even the coach at Prairie View A&M looked promising. Those women lpayed tough. And she's only 30!

Yeah, I'd go really young, really energetic, really hungry, and be patient. Gonna take some time to turn this thing around, esp. with Baylor and A&M having such strong programs right now. UT Austin is VERY strong academically, and that card should be played more than it has, perhaps.
