As a UConn fan, my favorite players play for Geno. But I saw a player last night that caught my attention.
Maggie Doogan plays for the Richmond Spiders in the A10. I never heard of her before, but man she can play.
She scored 27 points on 11/18 shooting against UCLA. She was unbelievable. She can shoot threes, and her footwork under the basket was like Napheesa Collier.
Would love to see her move North to Connecticut.

Word on the street is that she's not planning to transfer. As long as her coach stays, I can't see that changing.

Not at a position of need for UConn. And you know what I thought while watching her? “Boy is she lucky that ucla doesn’t have Sarah strong.”

I think Sarah strong would have absolutely clamped her. Sarah would be her worst nightmare.

I watched her play both games this weekend at UCLA. By the end of the first half of the game against Georgia Tech, I was locked on to her. Besides the fact that she can just flat out shoot the lights out, she is far from one-dimensional in the ways that she can attack a defense. If her defender looks away for a second, she's gone, getting open for her teammates.

UCLA ran 3 different defenders at her, but I think that what ultimately slowed her down was just fatigue after playing almost the entire game.

I dismissed the idea of her joining the team in the first sentence. And then I pivoted to talking about what I thought about while watching her.

If UConn is looking in the portal, I think a big or a point guard are the positions I would look at.

Doogan is a 6'2" forward with, as noted, exceptional footwork, but she's also got some wheels. Alyssa Ustby who can shoot from all three levels or a Maddy Siegrist who can run fast and forever.

I was also impressed with Rachel Ullstrom, the 6'1" guard who also has burners, can rebound and shoot the three.

Coach does a very good job of setting up a system for his players. If he stays, I think it would be great for the whole group to stay intact and grow together.
