Didn't ND sign Charlie Weis to a 10 year contract based on one year as head football coach? At least Muffet has a long, successful career to use as a bargaining chip in her contract negotiations.Wow that's a long time contract. Don't know if I would give one that long. If I'm really good, I don't know if I'd sign one either.
I guess people are always re-negotiating anyway.
She does. Still, you would think institutions would learn.
There is a reason that the MD Athletic Department is in major debt.In comparison, Maryland head coach Brenda Frese, who won a national title in 2006, earned $957,522.63 from the university alone in 2011.
WOW!!!

You are correct. The state pays Geno's base salary of about $400,000 and the Athletic Department pays for an additional $1.2 million in "speaking and media appearances" fees. As an aside - several years ago, the AD money had come from donations and profits, not from taxpayers, but perhaps that's changed? Don't know.I always thought, for example, Geno, gets X dollars from the university (called Salary) and gets a set amount for speaking, TV, and other "related" activities (essentially PR type stuff) through the university which they may or may not get for making his services available. I could be completely wrong.
What's wrong with a person saying, "This is my home - I like it here?" Muffet doesn't have anything to prove and you know she's not "looking for the next better job"(any more than Geno). You know she isn't going to get complacent.
FWIW: This says something to recruits. This program has a legacy.
Nor does it mean the contract doesn't have bail out clauses for both Muffet or the ND. Most do, the contract just predefines it.
Nothing, but in a 3-4 years, her contract may not look so good (as compared to...whoever/whatever). AD's change. Programs change. What if she wins 3 NC's in that time frame?
Buttttttt, like I said people re-negotiate all the time anyway.....i.e. they don't honor their contract.
Exactly. Thus it makes the length of contract a somewhat tentative thing.I would hope so with that long a one.
It is good that you mentioned Charlie Weis. Charlie Weis' Notre Dame team goes 9-3 in his inaugural coaching season and is rewarded with a 10 year contract. Weis' predecessor, Tyrone Willingham, is 10-2 his first season only to get fired two seasons later. Go figure!
True, but at least in this instance (i.e. coaching positions), an institution usually has to pay off the coach if it fires the coach anyway.Hey, I'm an executive recruiter. I wouldn't have a business if people didn't move around.
However, loyalty is a two-way street.
