Love Izzo, great guy and I agree they didn't play well. Much forced by our Huskies man defense which was better than any they have seen all year.

But I have one thing to say if he thinks the Huskies were at their best - Giffey. I have never seen Niels miss 5-6 WIDE open looks all year never mind in one game. He played great despite that but my point is during the first half sun and 2nd half run, if he is our usual Niels, this one would have been a blow out!!!!

Won't happen again, hope they don't leave space in texas for him where there's plenty!

I agree. UConn really relies on hitting those open 3s. DD has played great, but he too missed badly, and Lasan. Boatright was clutch however, hitting them even when contested. UConn was 2-16 at one point on 3s.

Can we stop with this Izzo as a great tourney coach? That's ancient history. He just took a team everyone picked to win the whole thing and didn't have them ready. I think Sparty thought that the game was going to be just handed to them. They were even whining about that blatant foul on Bazz. I have still yet to meet a Sparty fan that wasn't a chump. I hope this loss leaves a mark.

Have to agree with you. You showed the box score from last year and this year's box score looks awfully similar by the way. My buddy from UVa said he thought we would have trouble with MSUs defense thought it was the best he'd seen all year. He's probably right but it still wasn't very good. The threes we missed were wide open! If we make tow or three of them it maybe becomes a blow out. The second half adjustments to take away MSU's run out 3's is a thing of beauty!!

Absolutely right!

We shot 17% from 3 and 20 something from the field in the first half!
far from our norm!

Izzo is a great coach. After yesterday, he's 6-2 in regional finals. Thats a pretty serious record that can't be discounted by one bad game.

Well said Mau. If Niels hit his usual 50%, we'd be looking at a double-digit UConn win.

Totally agree Mau.

We HAVE another gear. And I think the combination of FF play and the seniors knowing they are this close to the end will bring it out.

We heard the same thing over and over again in the 2011 run. Magically every team decided to play their worst game and have their worst shooting night against UConn because it couldn't have possibly been that UConn played great defense. UConn just got lucky that's all.

Could we relate this to George Mason beating the 06 team? We had the talent then to win it all (many picked us to) and we failed to produce.

Had Mike & Mike on in the background while getting ready for work(I know, they suck but Boomer & Carton are unlistenable) and very little credit was given to UConn. Talked about the Garden crowd and how the pressure of getting to a Final 4 with this group had gotten to them mentally causing all the errors, just laughable.

Funny how so many teams suddenly stop playing "well." Elton Brand in the Duke invitational; Reddick in the 04 semi-finals goes nuts but in the clutch, well we know how that worked out; that '11 UK all but championship team (or the "better'"SDSU team) all those teams suddenly could not play to their potential. Wonder why?
As an aside do you think Trice was checking his pj's to make sure Boatright wasn't in them already? He can always call on that other BigTen Alum Michael Redd & Scoonie Penn and join the "I was undressed by UConn in public" support group.

Part of the problem MSU didn't play well was because UCONN had a terrific defensive game plan. It's not like we stood around and prayed that they would miss layups. Bazz did hit some ridiculously high difficulty shots, but it's not the first time he's made those. I'm not sure how much higher his draft stock can go (for an undersized PG - I think he's smaller than Kemba?), but he certainly isn't hurting himself.

My only regret on the final 4 is that Ken$ucky is there. But that's not what this thread is about - so yeah maybe MSU had a poor offensive game, but I'd like to hear a little more from the experts that it's partly because UCONN had a great defensive game plan. Just ask Fraschilla...

That's a load of BS. The only one who has given credit to UCONN's D was (surprisingly) Sir Charles on CBS. He said it was one of the best defensive performances he can remember.

Have you seen Mike and Mike? Both unathletic mouth breathers who now little about basketball……..they wouldn't know good defense from bad defense! F them, ESPN sucks too……….

It will all about how bad MSU played when we were plain dreadful shooting the ball but somehow found a way. Let me ask you this, if Gary Harris doesn't make his first 5 shots how would they feel, because coming into this game he had been awful??

kenny smith did too. He talked at length about how its rare to have guards that are so proficient on both ends, not taking time off. And how their size is a problem because "they get under you."

We are the luckiest team in the history of college basketball.

This year we got the MOST OVER-Rated 2 seed. Sure they won the Big East and KenPom had them ranked 5th and they beat media darling KU, but they were so overrated. Then we beat Iowa State without their best player!!!! No not the First team all american. Not the B12 POY one. Not the guy that went off for 30 one. Their other best player. And then we dodged the 1 seed again. Whew. Thank god we got everyone including Obama's national champion in the elite 8. And man we were lucky that they just didn't have it and we were in MSG.

How else could a "1 man team" do all this damage.

Hi All
I'm new to the boneyard.

To be honest not many if any "experts" are giving the Huskies the credit they deserve. That will give KO a little more to fire up the boys. Play that disrespect card all week long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Niels must have had an "out-of-body" shooting day ... ;)

Nicely played Kgun, you heard that too huh? C'mon Tom, "out of body" plays? It's called gagging against really good defense so there's 2 things that could have gone wrong.

1) You didn't prepare them well enough

2) Or 2 they never saw pressure man like that before….or both?

Either way I would hardly call it out of body!!
