So says Seth Greenberg during the UCONN/CCSU game. He mentioned it when discussing his College hoops Christmas wishes. Even if they do draw well there, the lack of playing there with any frequency prevents it from getting that awful moniker.

I heard Jay Williams call MSG 'Cameron Indoor North' before the Duke-Utah game, and it's just so silly. As if the ACC has any claim to NYC, as if Duke has any real history in the Garden. It's just a case of these personalities hyping the Duke and ACC brand. As UConn fans, Storrs South is a well-earned claim to our history in the Garden (6OT Game, Kemba vs Pitt, multiple BET Championships, etc.), but in the bigger picture MSG will always belong to the old Big East - not the ACC and especially not to Duke.

As long as UConn is on the outside looking in to the "P5 club", this will be the case. Media and talking heads push brands, and ours simply isn't financially worth pushing right now, so stuff like this will be commonplace until we find a real home.

Hopefully it's soon before people forget we ever even played in MSG let alone have the title "Storrs South". Hell, in a decade or so people will think it was a Duke player who hit that step back against that one Pitt player way back when.

Duke basically plays at MSG every year and always has a great crowd. Good for them. There are plenty of reasons to hate Duke, im not sure that's very high on the list.

It's about UConn having history in the Garden, it's about the UConn brand. But sure, we shouldn't push ourself as New England's top program. We shouldn't push ourselves as the biggest pull in NYC. We shouldn't push ourself as a national brand and 4-time National Champion.

You know, there's a reason Louisville got into the ACC and we're stuck here. Some of our fans are content to be in this conference, I swear...

Let me clue you in on something, Buck. It wasn't our fans that kept us out of the ACC. We were announced as in the ACC ( I remember watching local newscasts) and Louisville stole it at the last minute because we were asleep at the switch as an athletic department and university. Didn't help that at the time that our football program was a laughing stock or that our hoops program was about to go into an NCAA ban year. But by all means let's blame it on the fans.

Agreed, it was the Athletic Department that failed during conference realignment. And I never said it's fans fault we are stuck here, but for fans to sit here and say 'who cares what people think about our NYC brand?' is stupid - especially in light of our situation. It should be obvious why owning that brand is important, and yet....

This is factually-incorrect idiocy.

So you're saying the Athletic Department did a good job during conference realignment and that's why we ended up here?

There nothing in terms of PR or behind the scenes stuff that either helped Louisville or hurt UConn.

Louisville was good at football.
UConn stunk.

The end.

We finished better than them 4 of the past 5 years before that not to mention beat them at their own field the same week they got announced for the ACC. Conference Realignment is more complex than being good at football. Look at Rutgers.

They had just beaten the doors off Florida in the Sugar Bowl, and packed the place doing it. If you think anyone gave a hoot about UConn vs UL H2H records...look at UConn vs Pitt and Syracuse H2H and all the good that did.

The point about Rutgers still stands. But to your point, our H2H records against those guys doesn't mean anything on its own, but it shows that in a short time we generated football success, including big time wins against prominent programs and a BCS bowl. Point being, we had an up and coming football program (on top of other great sports) that got passed over by a lesser programs. The job of the AD is to leverage that success and put UConn in the best position, and the Department failed to do that.

They're calling it 'Cameron North' for one main reason: ESPN is Duke's television partner, and they're heavily promoting said partner in the NYC area.

Meanwhile, ESPN is not UConn's television partner - they just own UConn's television rights, for cents on the dollar. Currently we're just niche programming for them; no need for them to go out of their way to boost us like they do for Duke, because we're not worth the time/effort/money to them. In fact, the sooner UConn athletics fades into the abyss, the better for ESPN's bottom line.

To Hell with ESPN.

The best we can hope for is for UConn to continue to win and to stay relevant despite the ten-plus years (!) of shade thrown our way from Bristol, while we fans continue to support them by watching the games and buying tickets. If we continue to do that, who knows? We might one day qualify to play in a Champions Classic, or on Big Monday...

Not that it changes your overall point, but I'm fairly certain the Sugar Bowl was after the announcement.
