Hmm. CBS Sports broadcasts MWC contests. Would expect anything else emanating from the Big EYE network?

I was re reading the Mark Blaudschun column I posted on the CR board. Cant the Big East just show BSU those types of numbers compared to what the MWC might be throwing out there? In other words, if BSU stays with Big East and we have an East/West set up, the league will make a LOT more money than if they stayed with MWC - at least that is what I have read. Aresco needs to come through with a TV contract so he can show that to BSU and make those numbers stand out compared to what the MWC is showing him.

What network is going to commit to any dollar amount when they have no idea who will be in the conference tomorrow? Outside the Big 5 conferences, you have UConn , Cincinnati, Boise, and BYU, that may have some significant worth to the networks. Too bad those four can't come together as east/west anchors of a 12 team all sports conference.

There are some obvious other choices but those four would serve as your anchor schools.

Interesting back and forth last night btwn Boise writer and USA Today writer (Wolken):

@DanWolken I get why CBS wants to play ball. Does network no good to have rights to games no one wants. Strengthen MW, exercise 4yr option

@murphsturph Yeah, really as it's as much of a CBS vs. ESPN/NBC thing as much as a MWC/Big East

Certainly it seems that those four are already in discussions about that very point, if I am to believe the reports that BYU and the Big East are still in contact over joining. Whether or not they are far enough along to be able to set up the western "all-sports" side of things is probably tough to know, since they are still battling over the Mountain West re-structuring thing.

As far as what networks would commit to a dollar amount when they don't know who will be in the conference; I've already heard about these tv negotiations building in pre-made clauses that change the dollar value based on defections from the conference. I would imagine that certain teams defecting would change the value more than others. But it's certainly something that is workable, and they are currently trying to figure out all those trigger points...
