Geno and Tara are both on the cusp of overtaking Pat for most coaching wins. How about the race for most program wins? Through last season the LVs had a 210 game lead on #2, which is our very own Huskies. The top five is rounded out by La Tech, James Madison and Stanford.

UT just lost to KY and ends the regular season and conference tournament with 21 wins. Uconn has 25 wins going into the AAC tournament. Assuming we win out that would be 3 more wins, putting us 204 wins back. We should win a minimum of three more in the NCAAs, hopefully a few more. If UT ends up in the NCAAs they could get another win or two and even more if they play in the WNITs. All in all by the time this season is over we will have gained about 10 wins on UT and trail them by about 200 wins. Not much progress considering UT was lousy this year.

It seems doubtful that any of us Boneyarders, particularly given our tendency to be on the older side, will see the day UConn takes over #1 for program wins. Which we will in due time. I would think that under the circumstances, that cracking a good bottle of wine to celebrate our inevitable destiny to become #1 in program wins would be appropriate just any old time.

It should be noted that UT's wbb program started in 1903, while UConn's program began in 1975. On the list of the top 50 winning programs almost all started in the mid-70s (thanks to Title IX), with a few in the 60s. James Madison was an early adopter, starting play in 1924. Just who did UT and JM play during their first 40 or 50 years?

Slight correction. UConn has 26 wins going into the AAC tournament.

FYI - from 1903 to1973-74 the TN program had about 80 wins - 'seasons' were not very long and there was a gap of about 40 years with no program. Women's basketball programs as we know them really started in the 70s.

I went through this year's UT WBB media guide and found a list of all coaches with their records. This is the won/lost for each year prior to Pat becoming coach. A total of 93 wins. @UcMiami is right that women's basketball prior to the 70s was catch as catch can. There were no games between 1927 and 1960 for instance. Kind of peculiar is that the guide says that no schedules or results were available between 1960 and 68. The 60s aren't exactly the stone age; you'd think that if they played during those years that some record would exist.

Enough with Tennessee. We have a game coming up here.

UConn had a team in 1901 (A Piece of UConn History/100 Years of Women's Basketball - March 11, 2002) Many colleges did. They played each other or high schools. Most were wiped out when high school tournaments were banned mid-30s.
I did a quick google check - Smith (being within shouting distance of Springfield) started their first team in 1892, lees than a year after Dr. Naismith's first game.

Full disclosure - my wife was a Smithy, never played ball, but was cox on the rowing team.
