I find it hard to believe Massachusetts is a Duke state. I talk with a lot of people about college basketball and I can't remember anyone being a Duke fan.

Title of this thread is deceiving. The map is most viewed not most popular. I watch some Duke games but root against them.

The fact that people in Vermont are more interested in North Carolina basketball than actual North Carolinians is wild.

Didn’t realize we had swing states in college basketball. All the same states going from UConn to Duke. They will be back.

It's specifically the teams whose pages on their site are the most viewed... It's silly, but it's not like they have any other metric to publicize.

Bad thread title. This is not about “popularity”. It’s literally just a count on clicks to visit a team’s “page”. Duke showing up where it is has more to do with Flagg than anything else, and that should be obvious.

I am a little confused by Rutgers. But then, it is the state school, and there aren’t any good teams in Philly or NY (nobody cares about SJU) to draw interest. Maybe people were looking up what was going on with Harper and Bailey during/after the season heading into the draft

My favorite takeaway is nobody in NY caring about Syracuse

NC State is by fy far more supported here in NC by locals.

Duke has always been, always will be a bandwagon program. Yeah they have their own fanbase that's probably loyal, but a huge bandwagon fanbase, always has been. There's people that like Duke just because their friends do.

UNC is right there with them.

Now Uconn, Kansas, UK, IU - true die hard fanbases.

ESPN/media go hard on Duke. And they don’t care if you love them or hate them as long as they can help make fans care even more about them one way or the other. So, if clicks is the thing this map is portraying then it makes sense.

Gerrymandering has found it’s way into college basketball.

Previous poster was correct Duke has a huge bandwagon. I observed it in the early 90s in middle school so many Duke fans in my school here in CT. It does help them that the major media outlets always are waxing their nuts.
