i don't think anyone yet has noted one incredible drive by qadance, though she didn't get a lot of minutes against holy cross. it was a move along the baseline from the right corner, maybe in the second half. maybe i noticed it because the camera angle was great and tight (and maybe because the move was so outstanding).

Q maybe shouldn't have done it so early in the shot clock and she was well-covered, but, lordy, what an amazing attack and shot. she clearly has special talent and i hope whatever is keeping her off the court is resolved so we can see more of it. she has the potential to be a true star.

related: very impressed with azzi's two drives to score in the first quarter (?) when everybody else (?) was chucking up bricks from outside. this while azzi had a sour tummy!

Q has shown a couple of slashes to the hoop. She is very quick and she hustles and rebounds. I think she is getting the message to do other things besides shoot 3 balls from Geno. Q and Morgan can fill in at the 3 and 4 for some minutes.

I could be wrong, I usually am based upon some of the replies I get :):(:rolleyes:, but it looked to me, watching it live, that she looked kinda shocked that it went in.
That’s why you throw it up when you hear the whistle. It just might go in. ;)

Back in the Dark Ages when I played HS basketball, there was a play I made at the end of the 1st half of a game. The ball was heading out of bounds at the side of the court. I grabbed it, jumping over the sideline and flung it at the basket, about 30’ away….nothing but net.

I had never made a shot like that before or since. Sometimes luck is better than skill.

I loved that play, though it was hardly graceful. And it looked like she traveled at the end, since she put both feet down just before she released the ball. But it was clever and she seemed determined to make something happen. I’ve long been impressed by Q as a slasher. This is her greatest similarity to Aubrey. And she can get out on transition, even if she didn’t get any opportunities last night.

Now the bad: she was sometimes out place on defense and left perimeter shooters unchecked. It’s hard to tell what’s behind this, whether it’s focus or recognition. But this has plagued her since she arrived.

And now for the second good: she is a clever, tenacious rebounder. She been good at this from the beginning and I expect her to get even better at it. This is the second way her game resembles Aubrey’s. I’d really like to see her succeed, break into the regular rotation this season or next. She has talents worth developing

I think a lot of our players are not in place on defense, they tend to follow the ball to each side of the court. How many times have we seen a player set up at the 3 point line on the opposite side of the court from the ball, there's a cross court pass and a UConn player suddenly has to recover and "leap" at the shooter?
Never have been a coach, not sure how it can be fixed. Besides, every other team does the same thing, thus wide open shots all around.

With that ' baby face " Q looks 12 years old but, I have high hopes for her. Q is a work in progress.. Because of GENO and CHRIS, she will develop nicely as time and practice is a great teacher , Q will perform in future games.. GO Q!!!!!

Yea...even Paige was out of position a few times last night. Switching and scrambling inevitably will cause this. And IMO even when in position we're still allowing guards to turn the corner and get down hill causing help rotation and leaving open perimeter shooters. It's not just a Q thing by any means.

To me, "Q" is a favorite. She seems to have athleticism that, at the moment, is beyond her ability to control it. ( I'm not even sure that sentence makes sense). I saw the move, for sure. And it was equally important for her to make the foul shot that went with it ( she did). She seems to move with great pace on defense and has long arms. She doesn't always look as though she knows exactly where to be. Q will get more court time if she can ramp up her defense. She is a good rebounder and can run. She made an even more athletic drive to the hoop against Ole Miss, but she was called for a travel ( athleticism ahead of her ability to control it ).

At the moment, Q and Allie are the deep bench. In my opinion, Q has to just work like a demon on her defense. Her defense will get her on the court. And when that three is open, she has to nail it. She has to become dependable. I think, right now, coach sees her potential, but is not sure what he will get when she is on the court. She needs to make him more confident.

To date, Q usually does something spectacular, and then negates it by doing something dumb. One negates the other.

But I am happy you remarked on her shot. I am her biggest fan.

Somewhat similar to Aubrey, Q can do stuff that no one else can come close to doing. So whatever her transgressions may or may not be, don't throw out the baby with the bath water.

They have to give Q MORE playing time.
She will have to earn it. But it wont happen in " big " games until she becomes more reliable is a positive force on both sides of the ball. She could see a fair amount of playing opportunity as the Big East conference games begin. But I don't know how she moves up a notch at this point in the season. She has stiff competition on this UCONN team. And when Aubrey returns ( January? February?), playing time will be even tougher to obtain.

You mean the drive where she clearly traveled? :D

Qadence strikes me as having loads of potential. We all have to keep in mind that she hasn't played all that many minutes yet in her college career. I'm tempted to say she is making normal progress, but who knows?

I agree, but the more she plays, the more progress she should make.

I fail to see what Q can do right now that a healthy Aubrey cannot do better (OK, maybe 3-point shooting). Assuming that Aubrey comes back in December and is essentially the player that she was, she should get all the minutes that count, and Q should be relegated to mop-up duty. In less competitive games, Q can get the minutes that she needs to be a force next year.

I am thinking specifically of defense and offensive positioning, where Aubrey clearly knows what she is doing, and Q often seems quite confused.

That was a nice move by Q. I was glad that she got some minutes out there. I love the fact that when she is on the floor, she sprints her lane and goes to the deep corner in order to flatten the defense out to help whoever is pushing the ball up the court. Sadly they never look in her direction on those breaks but glad that Q sprints her lane.

On defense, Q is on par with the rest of the team. She is either hit or miss. Last night, she was on her A game. She had her backside to the baseline watching her man. She would bump the cutter. Everything you ask for a defender to do, Q does. In the Holy Cross matchup, she held her own out there. Q can only control what she can control and that is her effort & attitude in practice and in games.

Q will be fine. She is clearly on an “Aubrey“ track and imo will be ready to take over Aubrey’s “disruptor” slot next year. She is already a better three point shooter and will hopefully use these next few months to learn from the master and we will continue to have what Geno so clearly loves, a player who can come in, create havoc, and completely change the trajectory of the game! Aubrey is of course, one of a kind, but Q clearly has shown enough to make many of us believe she is the “heir apparent”!
