"Three players with the largest name recognition in the WNBA are also among the most despised by their teammates. Discuss." John A. Blog

I suspect John A will be popping in to see if we took the bait...

One of the despised HAS to be Angel... numerous cringe-able moments showing a really negative attitude towards her teammates. After that things get murkier... I would say Diana IF it was all of the league and not just teammates. She can be a real punk toward the opposition, but I think her teammates would love her.

"Despised" is strong... I'm stuck... suggestions for a second member of the most despised club?

My IMHO guesses are: Candice Parker/Angel McCourtrey/ & Cappie Pondexter! With Skylar Diggins as a 4th possibility, as she's so high maintenance! Plus she couldn't have been happy to go from starter to the bench on the worst team in the WNBA!

I also liked John's comments on possible WNBA player revolt on the lousy referees situation! WBB as a whole has worst refs on all upper levels of play!

I thought about CP3, one of the real divas in the league, but I don't see the evidence for "despise" on the court. I guess there was one game that Nneka probably wasn't too fond of her.

Cappie is a possibility. In this exercise its kind of tough to separate your feelings about a player from what you think their teammates feelings are. Angel has to be a lock though.

As a SUN season ticket holder it pains me to correct you on one point... Tulsa was not the WNBA's worst team. The Sun managed to suck even more (Tulsa had 11 wins, the Sun, 10) :(.

Definitely not Dee....but I'll go along with RSHERM on Angel, CP3 and Cappie. Muffet always said Skylar's teammates really liked her..but don't know how she is in Tulsa. And BG may be a little hard to take, but probably not as bad as that description...

.-.
How about Bonner. All those momentum-killing, early shot clock, 3-point bricks would tick me off if I were a teammate.

Unless she changed in the "W" - which is possible - I wouldn't think it was Cappie. She wasn't a selfish player at Rutgers and was quite popular. She had a good relationship with Dee (call it friendly rivalry, it wasn't nasty) at least at one point when they were on Phoenix together. Of course, except for the one game in Phoenix, which I went to, I didn't see any Lib games.

Well, John said that the three despised were "Three players with the largest name recognition." That rules out Pondexter, doesn't it? It probably also rules out Angel. And much as it pains me to say this, it strongly points to Diana. I can't believe it's true, and I certainly hope not, but who has a larger name recognition than DT? Ugh.

The only thing despicable about Parker is that she routinely kicked UConn's ass. Had she played for the right team a lot of folks would have a different opinion of her.

And I would opt for Taurasi as one of the big name despicable 3.

I believe toward the end of his "chat" the other day, he said DT was not one of them.

He said 'large' not 'largest' in terms of name recognition. And I do not see CP3 as a likely candidate because she really seems to get along with her teammates and with the USA teammates. Cappie was one I thought of. Bonner except she doesn't really fit the name rec requirement.

sigh. prove it. what good would it do. what's the solution. deja vu. sigh.

Cappie too.

And he said "by their teammates" not "around the league".

I did a google on "most disliked wnba players" and in four pages of hits, the only current player's name I came across was Plenette Pierson, and that was from a much less than respected source AND I don't think that Plenette has that level of name recognition. Actually, who cares? I was just killing time waiting for the game to start.

I don't think it's Skylar Diggins. She's a fierce competitor who I think is humble. She's also good friends with Candice Wiggins and I am sure Wiggins would have set her straight if she were acting like a diva.

What about Griner or DelleDonne?

And remember, it's teammates, not the whole WNBA. I really hope it's not DT. She can be I noxious, but if she were on my team, I'd totally overlook her antics!

What about Tina Charles? We know she wants to get out of Conn., I'd understand her teammates not appreciating that.

Otherwise, I'd say Angel is almost a fix on that list. And as some of you already said, Cappie and Bonner might be on that list too. Maybe even Sophia Young for her discriminatory comments about gay marriage, but I'm not sure if she is a player with that kind of recognition.

Didn't say that the 3 despised players are teammates. It says that each of the players are despised by her teammates. Could be on separate teams or on one team.

John A. is the guy on the right....

Lazy and pot-stirring just for the sake of being mean spirited. Unless you're calling someone out, be quiet.

agreed. This is just ridiculous dropping fodder such as this, insinuating through not naming, and inviting discussion. What's worse, some of the BY'ers jumping in to give credence to this by trying to guess who these players may be.

Is John trying to figure out who amongst the "little people" are the most disliked players for a possible piece down the road? Just saying.

No, I don't care to know who these players are.
