Assists - Single year record - 231 (Sue Bird), Career record 648 (DT)
YTD - 75, Average - 5.77, Full year projection (37* games) - 213,
Career to date - 530 - rank #8, next up Lishness at 531, Career projection 668

Steals - Single year record - 143 (Sales), Career record 447 (Sales)
YTD - 34, Average - 2.62, Full year projection - 97
Career to date - 292 - rank #6, next up Faris at 294, Career projection 355 rank #2

A/TO - Career - 2.11 (Sue)
YTD - 67/31 = 2.14
Career to date - 522/208 = 2.51, Career projection 668/277 = 2.41

*Moriah lost a game to injury so the 'averages' are based on games played (13) and the projected total games this year has been reduced by 1 to 37.

With the lost game Moriah's career stat projections have been reduced a bit reducing her cushion for breaking DT's assist record and for the #2 spot in steals over Jen Rizzotti (349 steals.) There was little change in her A/TO YTD or career projections.

She's gonna be right there with Bird as the best PG.

Add in her scoring, YTD - 166 Full year projection (37 games) - 472
Career to date - 1233, Career projection - 1540. Tied with Rizzotti at #20.

Hard to do with MoJett busting up the court, but I've turned my eyes to quiet ol Ms Tuck.
Truley impressive, off the ball as well as on.

Couple of these stats are also a reminder of how good a point guard Jen was.
We have been blessed with some really great PGs at Uconn - I really don't go back before Jen and 1995, but since then, Rita, Sue, DT/Maria, Rene, Bria, and now Moriah - only Rita who was a transfer so didn't play four years left without at least one NC and they were instrumental in achieving them. It is an impressive run of quality guards.

While Stewie is unquestionably the best in the game, there is NOBODY more exciting, more impossible-to-take-your-eyes-off-of than Moriah Jefferson.

Well, it's also pretty hard to take your eyes off that young lady on UConn the bench. The one in tight civvies with the 9"spikes. Who is she anyway? A manager?

Speaking of spikes, remember the days where if the coach caught you on the court in street shoes you would be running laps for the rest of the year.

Jasmine Lister played PG at Vandy (2010-2014 I think!)

There's been a little confusion (in the Memphis game thread and in the media) over whether Moriah is now 8th or 9th on the school's assist list after passing Laura Lishness last night. I think the problem stems from an error in the UConn media guide, which listed Lishness in 8th place entering this season even though there are 8 players listed above her (for some reason, there are two #5s on the list). So it appears to me that Lishness should have been listed in 9th place, and Moriah, having now passed her, has taken over 9th place.

Do people remember that Sue had an ACL and lost almost one entire season???
It is an interesting statistical quandary in evaluating Sue. The fact that she played in only eight games as a freshman clearly reduced her career totals and she would rank higher in all categories including no doubt holding the record for assists. However freshman in general and Sue in particular tend to put up the worst per game statistics, and the worst percentage statistics of their careers. As a case in point Moriah's stats as a freshman vs. her combined stats through three years:
Shooting - Freshman: .424/.266/.760 Three year: .547/.414/.793
Assists - F: 1.77/gm 1.41 A/TO Three year: 3.86/gm 2.57 A/TO
Scoring - F: 4.7 Three year 9.0

Specific to Sue she started and played 8 of the teams 34 games but was producing at a very different rate than she did for the rest of her career:
Shooting - .316/.316/.750 - she currently holds the career percentage records for 3 point shooting and free throw shooting, but if you extrapolate out to 34 games at the rate she achieved durning the first eight games her three point career percentage would drop to .442 and slot into second place behind KML. Her FT percentage would drop a bit as well but remain #1.
Her scoring average would drop from 11.7 to 10.5, her assists per game from 4.95 to 4.63, and A/TO from 2.11 to 2.02.
She would have ended her career with 666 assists - eighteen more than DT for #1.
She would have ended with 1510 points and be currently ranked #22 not far off where Moriah should end up.

Who knows how Sue would have fared during her freshman season had she not been injured - her career as it actually stands was great and that is really enough to go on with.
