"You know what, she hasn't had that feeling [of being in a bubble] yet at UConn," Robin Jefferson said. "But then one day [in October] I talked to her after practice and said, 'Honey, do you remember that zone you used to describe to me? You haven't been in that yet, have you?' And she said, 'Mom, I'm in it.'"

Just an outstanding article from John A in the Courant on Moriah. Great stuff. (Story link below from Nan's daily batch of news. Thanks, Nan!)

Man, will I ever miss this kid! So thankful to be able to watch her senior campaign this year and see her at the very top of her game.

I got to meet Moriah last year. I told her how appreciative I was that she came to UConn to play. I also told her that she made watching basketball more exciting than any other player I could remember at UConn (and perhaps ever...). She sent me that beautiful smile of hers and told me how blessed she felt to be here. At which point I smiled and also told she had the best smile I had seen in a long time. What a treasure Moriah is!!:)

Her confidence is off the chart. Her work ethic is unexcelled. A special player.

Confidence is the trait Geno loves in his players--the biggest Ego in WBB--DT, it has worked wonders for her. If you believe, it will happen.

That last paragraph gives me goose bumps!
I think minute for minute she is the most exciting player I've ever watched at Uconn. There may be more exciting individual plays, and certainly a number of really great players headlined by DT, but I can't take my eyes off Moriah when she is on the floor.

Moriah showed flashes of her talent as a freshman, but her shooting was mediocre. Her second year, she started slowly, especially shooting the ball, but skyrocketed in January and was great the rest of the year. Last season, she again started slowly, but turned it on in December. Based on the pre-season games, she looks to be in mid-season form.

Mo takes over games like players her size rarely do. She reminds me a bit of Ivory Latta on her best days. Teams don't bother pressing us when Moriah is in the game. Her speed and moves put the other team's defenders in vulnerable positions. On defense, she steals the ball, harasses the other players into bad decisions, and even blocks shots. Two years ago, I wrote that she would be the most fun to watch player in the country. I stand by that statement. She is a treasure. Let's enjoy her 4th season with us.

"I asked her once, 'Moriah, what happens to you when you are on the floor?' And she said, 'Mom, when you see me moving so fast, it kind of feels like I am in a bubble and the floor is moving so slowly that I can see whatever it is that I want to see and get to wherever I want to get.'"

Yeah, I'm going to miss her as well. She's been special for us. No point in dwelling on it now though. We've got a year left and I'm going enjoy every minute of it.

I know that Moriah is pretty much ALL about energy and hustle every time she takes the floor, but there was a *particular* game last year where she was just beyond belief - Geno gave her a big hug when she came off the floor to a standing "O" ... but I don't remember which game it was. He was gushing in the presser about how amazing her performance was. Even by Mo's standards it was a very special game. If you happen to know which game that was, I want to go watch it on that website (where they have all the archived games).

Courtesy of JA and the Courant -- How about this (friendly/competitive) jab at Nurse...
___________________________
While the freshmen were part of the U.S.'s U19 world championship [Samuelson left the team to be with her ailing mother], Stewart, Jefferson and Nurse spent the summer playing in the World University Games. Nurse's 33 points helped Canada upset the U.S. in the title game.

"She got to hang the gold medal over her head," Jefferson said. "I am going to hang her performance every day in practice over her head now."

I remember one night while she was a freshman I snuck down to the first few rows during warm-ups before a game. I happened to come closest to Mo. She seemed so happy to get the attention. She gave me the sweetest, most innocent smile I can remember. What a gift!

Not sure but wasn't it the SC game where she was putting moves on players that just left them standing.

I'm thinking that is right. At one point she did that fake step, pull back and flash lay up. Later in the contest she went over chairs or a table in pursuit of a loose ball and Geno went up the sideline clapping and shaking his fist. She got a bear hug when she left the game.

Not to mention that between the legs dribble when she was fouled and made the foul shot to tie it at 18, and then in the second half that behind the back dribble and kick out to K for the 3.

Might take a supercomputer to sort through all of MoJeff's great games last year starting with the 12/27 SMU game when she officially broke out of her semi funk with a 24 point (8-12, 4-5) performance, and two weeks later against SMU she did the dishes with 10 assists. During the entire month of January she had a freaking unbelievable stretch where she played in 8 games and had 4 TOs vs. 39 assists, a 9.75 A\TO ratio. She was probably the biggest story in that USCar game with 16 points on 7-9 and 6 assists vs. 1 TO. Two weeks later against a decent Tulane team she had 8 steals. During the NCAA Tourney she had 88 points and 32 assists versus 10 TOs plus 12 steals, and in that tough Dayton game she had 0 TOs while handing out 6 assists. In the Tourney she was also 12-25 from 3-pt territory, and from the 12/27 game on, she hit 45-87 from outside for 51.7%. Although she didn't get to the line much, she was a perfect 15-15 from the Cinci game on 2/3 to the end of the season.

One area she did kind of lag in was blocks, where she battled Kiah valiantly for the team title but lost out 147-5. Size may have been a factor there.

Sorry, my fingers have gone numb and I can type no more.

Here you go guys.

Outstanding! Needed a Mo fix after the mouth-watering reading of this thread!

Just LOVE that hesitation/blow-by move! (Shown over & over, starting about 1:25) I think this game, if not that one move, got Mo the attention to start getting noticed for AA and then the Lieberman Award.

On blow-by, Gamec-ks' Tina Roy looks like a totally hapless befuddled defender operating at a speed and intensity level about 10 times below the one MoJeff plays at.

This is going to be a very special year once MoJeff is definitely at the conditioning level she was at by 12/27 last year. She may be close already, but generally it takes players at least a few games to get into full game shape physically and mentally.

She was already on the radar, but this being 1 v 2 and nationally broadcast sealed the deal.
