Despite Sue Bird taking home all the awards, Diana Taurasi was the best player on the that 2002 team, and one can easily argue the best player on the 2001 team.

I feel the same about Nykesha Sales on the 1995, 1996, and 1997 teams.

My favorite example of such relationships would extend to the men's game - the 1982 North Carolina team where Michael Jordan was the third option behind James Worthy and Sam Perkins.
