Big East Notebook: As others expand conference slate, league...

Then there's the obvious question: Is there a way to re-incorporate Connecticut?

UConn wants to play at Madison Square Garden and will come out for games against their traditional Big East foes – the attendance and atmosphere at MSG when it hosted the 2014 East Regional speaks to it. Huskies fans love when their team plays at the Garden.

But Connecticut has invested heavily in football. Such a move – and in television dollars there would be an uptick for UConn – means parking an expensive football program in another conference or as an independent. Given the investment, it's a heavy lift.

“One school expansion would be more favorable to us,” Ackerman says. “When you look to grow, it’s not just about history. There has to be a complete alignment. We have not been able to identify a school that fits the bill in all the ways that need to fit. But if it happened, I think our presidents would be open to it.”

There is a segment within the athletic department that never bought into football. It is mid level stuff. That is where this comes from. Not from AD Dave or his top associates but next level
