ACC teams have contractually obligated all of their television and media rights to the conference through 2036 should they leave. Penalty for leaving early is that annual amount times the number of years remaining, and the ACC keeps all revenue from that schools media rights until 2036.
There are 15 years left on that contract. Any team leaving the ACC this year, for example, is expected to owe $180 million in exit fees and the ACC would own all their media rights for 15 more years. That is an absolutely draconian contract that all but prevents any ACC member from leaving that conference.
Whenever you are reading clickbait stories about Clem or FSU leaving for the SEC remember the contract. Ain’t happening.
