So over the weekend a baseball player at Bloomsburg University sent an incredibly poor tweet out directed at Mo'ne. The school immediately removed him from the team. As she's done over the past year or so she's shown how much grace she has and a maturity beyond her years in asking the University to reinstate him.

So great to see her continue to act with grace. If she ends up being good enough on the court to play for UConn we know she will have no trouble showing the class that's expected as well.

In another interview (2nd video, comes on if you wait after the linked video), Mo'ne is asked, "In 10 years what are we going to see - Mo'ne the baseball player, Mo'ne the movie star, Mo'ne the basketball player...?"

She answers, "Hopefully Mo'ne the basketball player."

110% CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to have her at UConn; even if she is not a starter. She reflects the values and character that Geno looks for in all of his recruits. I also think it's quite obvious that she wants to play for Geno; and that Geno hopes she develops the basketball skills needed to play at UConn's level.

a product of her raising...It's pretty sad when a 13(?) year old shows more poise, grace and class than a college athlete...Mo'ne, stay true to yourself, and whatever you choose to do, you'll be a success...

So now Mo'ne is "trending" on Twitter. Again, what a remarkable young woman.

Not a charter member to the Mo'ne fan club (and we're miles away from thinking that she'll end up being worth a offer) but she comes off and reasonable, authentic and very poised in the linked video. Good for her.

Here's a copy of Mo'ne's letter to the University. I just saw this on a national story about her. [LINK]

-------------------------------
Mo'Ne's email to Bloomsburg University:

Dear Dr. Soltz,

I am writing about the Tweet sent out by your baseball player, Joey Casselberry, and his dismissal from the team because of it. While I admit I was pretty hurt when I read his comments, I felt sad that he was dismissed from the team. As many people know, my dream is to play college basketball and maybe even professionally. I know how much hard work and dedication it will take to get there, and to have that dream taken away would be heartbreaking. I am sure Joey Casselberry has worked very hard to get where he is and dreams of playing in the major leagues. For this reason, I’m asking you to please allow him back on the team so that he can continue to chase his dream. He made one dumb mistake. I’m sure he would go back and change it if he could. We all make mistakes and deserve to be forgiven. I hope you will give him a second chance and allow him to play.

Thanks.

Wow, what a great letter from any age, but a 13 year old. She deserved an offer to UConn one day!!! Hopefully her BB skills are even better than her baseball skills.

*Not sure if it was live or tape, but 5 minutes ago on ESPN U, Kevin Neganhdi interviewed Mo'ne. He asked about playing for UConn one day, why UConn and Geno's phone call. All these UConn mentions on tv, I'm sure Vandy's Balcomb or some other knucklehead will try to have the UConn program summarily shut down.
*Mo'ne is an incredibly mature, well-spoken young lady. Wherever she goes and whatever she chooses to do in life, she will be successful.

She is now a freshman in high school. Geno, what's holding up the scholarship offer?

Wow. This young lady has more class and maturity than most adults that I know. Plus she is handling all of this increased media attention very well. I tip my hat to her parents for raising such a sharp kid.

Took the high road.... a very mature response to an ugly act..... rise above it, don't play the victim.... all class, young lady.

Nice gesture and I hope the player is reinstated (have no idea what the tweet was, but suspension for a 'verbal' mistake would seem more appropriate than dismissal.)
This celebrity thing being thrust onto a 13 year old is a little much - I am sure she is having a blast, but it is at the same time got to be messing with her head and her 'normal life'. She is handling it very well, but she really should have to be put into these awkward interview situations.

(Old foggy here who really really dislike most of the twitter/facebook idiocy. They definitely have their uses, but just a little too much 'sharing' going on!)

This kid certainly appears to be exceptional, athletically and maturity wise. But, does anyone else have concerns, as I do, that if and when she is ever recruited by UConn that she will be bringing lots of media attention directed at her at the expense of the "team". I wonder if it would be a good thing for the team to have a "media darling" coming into a program that is well known for playing the ultimate "team" basketball.

I don't know, but suspect a girl playing on an elite boys baseball team striking out boys with 70 mph fastball has already chosen not to have a 'normal life.'

I thought it was a petty tweet. However, my daughter played HS, AAU and college ball. She used to tell me..."Pops, I let them know on the court". Love that kid!

Seems like a great kid, possibly could be a great team player. I think the media attention could be (and already is) good for WBB and UCONN.

And I suspect the intervening years will bring some new 'star' into the media spotlight. Hard to keep up all this attention through what will likely be less 'monumental' accomplishments over the next few years. The name will be remembered, but I have to believe some other phenomenal accomplishment will occur, or some other human interest story, or natural disaster, or two headed donkey, or ....
I sure hope so for Mo'ne's sake.
