Mississippi State leads 20-12 after one. JaMya Mingo-Young leads with nine points.

Carter/ post play for MSU is holding the team back a lot.

The freshmen are playing well though

AEH appears to have really faded this year. What happened? Is State finding out what Coach Geno identified early on?

She's simply not delivering like she was last year, when she was knocking down threes at a really high rate.

72-59 final. Carter has better 2nd half. Finished with 13 points 15 rebounds. R. Jackson had 17 points, Mingo young with 10. Turnovers were a problem

There are a couple of items developing. First, the lineup is starting to tighten to a more steady rotation with Mingo-Young and Wiggins being the current primary subs. Second, Coach Schaefer had mentioned a couple of games ago that he wanted someone to be able to come in and be a defensive stopper. Wiggins looks like she is embracing that role. She is long and athletic and can guard multiple positions. She and Jackson are hell on switches. Third, R Jackson is starting to rebound better. She will be really good when she is able to get some off season time in the weight room. However her effort is much better now.

I’m not as concerned about A Espinoza-Hunter. I think she will be back in the rotation more once SEC play begins. She is not as athletic as some of the other players but she can provide a lot of firepower off the bench. I haven’t seen anything to say she is in the doghouse. I think it is simply Coach Schaefer working out some new players on the perimeter.

I am concerned about post depth and the post position in general. J Carter is a power forward not a post but neither Y Morris or P Taylor are ready to push for minutes. That is going to be a big issue if things remain the same.

I find it interesting that UConn opponents continue to show better against the field than expected....

They recently got Shemera Williams, and she has been a spark off the bench for a team that badly needs offense, being their second leading scorer at 9.7 PPG. Willoughby really needs some help, and if she finds it in Williams, they'll be better than expected.
