This is one of the reasons I am so pleased with Nikki, she has these girls in shape. F53AEC46-9802-4B08-B4BC-38A267E83658.jpeg F53AEC46-9802-4B08-B4BC-38A267E83658.jpeg

Mingo Young is pumped. Can’t wait to see team play South Carolina!

What about Jessika Carter? She's the one really killing it right now. I went from saying she was really bad against Stanford, to now thinking she's poised to really break out to possibly 1st team all SEC.

She looks almost like a different player (the most improved) from last year, and even a different one from the year before.

Mingo looks to me to have really bulked and from what I saw in the UNO game she is using her strength well in the game. Jessica appears to have increased her fitness and quickness but I think Morris and Cooks bring more physically to the post. I realize we still have not played a real quality team with size yet and believe we probably will not until conference play. I really want to see how our game looks against a quality team, sure wish the UConn game had happened.

This has been the biggest surprise to me. I thought Vic worked those kids hard, and he obviously did. But I have a good friend close to the program who said Nikki's biggest concern was that the girls were out of shape and not very strong in the weight room. That has been a big area of focus in the offseason and it shows. Our girls don't ever look tired and wow, they are ripped. Jamaya Mingo-Young is a stud. I love her toughness and how well she rebounds even though she's one of the smallest on the floor.

Nikki would have no clue how to use her, she's was a big pickup for State. Use to be a top recruit for a reason.

For the record, Mingo Young has always been jacked and in great physical shape. She did put in work this offseason I see and it shows.

Well, against USF tonight, she has not been good so maybe the conditioning with show itself in the 4th quarter but as this writing, warranting her thread was a bit of a reach...

Start Matharu....

When Matharu averages over 18 minutes per game in her career....... these are counting teams like South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, and South Florida (not against New Orleans or Jackson State), these are her numbers....

  • 18.2 points
  • 32/67 from the field
  • 14/34 from three
  • 1.2 steals per game
  • 2.0 turnovers per game (only)
  • 13/14 from free throw line

And this is only on 24.0 minutes per game. You gotta be pretty dumb not to start Matharu. She's an All-American if she can keep up these numbers.
