Look at it this way, if UCONN weren't dominating, would Mike and Mike be discussing WCBB?

After Calhoun, M&M continued, and trashed the RPI for ranking UCONN women #3.

Dan Patrick show this morning also featured a brief conversation about Dan Shaughnessey's tweet over the weekend (Dannette Paulie's "worst" in their Monday "Best and Worst of the Weekend" roundtable). Called him a troll, and Dan P said he thought it was a calculated move to get his named mentioned, and it worked - just like all the other times he's done it before.

These talking heads seem to have historical amnesia. They talk like UConn hasn't lost a game in 20 years. One only has to go back to 3 years ago, when UConn lost 4 games in the regular season — 3 of them to Notre Dame! — and looked to be fighting uphill as they entered the tournament seeded behind Baylor and ND.

Yes, UConn has been far and away the most successful program. But that neglects to mention the four other programs that have also won national championships in just the last 10 years.

Theme of the week: Dominance, so don't bother them with details! 'Course, for quite a few years, if you were to take a poll about dominance the name coming up is UConn.

Someone needs to tell one of their other hosts. Amin Elhassan enlightened ESPN radio listeners today. Some of nuggets we learned include UConn gets the five best HS players every year, UConn didn't start dominating until Pat Summit retired, Tennessee dominated in the same fashion UConn has, and Summit is easily the best coach of all time. Also, UConn gets all the good players and the competition is thin but apparently this wasn't the case for Tennessee in the 80's and 90's.

The fun starts at 21:00.

That's just as bad as Shaughnessey but some how I don't think will get as much criticism or any at all especially in certain parts of the country lol.

Before you tell us all the facts about the broadcast you need to warn us of a spoiler alert. :D:D:D

I can't recall the "UConn is the anointed one" talk ever being laid on so thickly as it is this year. Not really fond of it.

IMO one of the more important aspects of coaching a team late in the tourney helping to manage and maintain the team's mood. Keeping their eyes on the prize, keeping them from getting dazzled by media attention or the stakes of each game. My opinion is that this is one of the rare areas of weakness for Muffet McGraw, which is why she's lost in the FF not only against favorites, but also teams that she was capable of beating (Texas A&M).

If you ask UConn's athletes, no doubt they'll say that they're focused on the task at hand, not the potential for history. But that doesn't mean they haven't noticed this media explosion. On some level, some or all of them will be thinking about it.

With this year's environment, Geno's got his work cut out for him managing the team.

Plus Cox. Man we are getting a lot next year per their statements. When are these top recruits letting the other coaches know they will be attending Uconn?

Mike and Mike this morning was quite interesting. Having Coach Calhoun there to discuss it was an immense bonus. I was hoping for even more insider stuff. And, I knew Coach Calhoun would share the Carnesecca story.

I don't mind Shaughnessey's comment. He wants there to be more competition so he doesn't go into it feeling like it's a fait accompli. I get that. This other guy, on the other hand, made a slew of assertions that are demonstrably false and used them to back his opinion that UConn's dominance isn't particularly impressive.

Shau etc said this PM that Wooden had competition and Geno had none so there is no comparison.

Geno being asked about Wooden comparison on Sportscenter right now and he ducks: you don't know how to react.

Coach Wooden probably had even less competition; The tournament was strictly regional with only one team per conference and a few at large selections; Only had to win four games to claim the title; Integration was not even a new concept at a number of schools; Even the schools that recruited black ballplayers did so sparingly.
The Wooden argument irks me unsparingly.

Next Tuesday night, Geno will stand by himself as the #1 All-Time winningest coach wit 11 NCAA Championships.............Baylor, ND, USC missed the dance again.......Winning is very tough to do every year.......

Who is Amin Elhassan? Odd I have never heard of him before.....

Here is the real stupidity. Baylor had the dominant team Griner's senior year. They had a game when they weren't quite so dominant, lost and I think L'Ville did us a big favor because I think we would've struggled with Baylor. We might be talking a possible 3 peat. Then, if we win it all, count me a amazed if we don't lose some games next year and win the NC. We have had a dominant, unique player and a top notch, by now experienced PG. The total dominance people whine about will be gone.

I think that Geno would really like to kiss the Globe writer for presenting something that Geno could work that would both take the heat off his team and fan the flames of their fire.

I agree with the Amin comment. it's much worse to boot. Much much much worse than Dan. But as a basketball fan - I don't like the fans or writers or other coachers or announcers that feel a need to be "above it all" and secondly- as Dan said somewhere to paraphrase "You watch sports because you don't know how it's going to end - or as he says "I love competition I love what's not going to happen." So why should Team USA have ever played Russia in The Dan Fans World? Especially after being totally blitzed before the Olympics.

Anyhow, does anyone really think he watched UCONN-ND Finals last year? Why would he be saying these comments if he did - or - if he follows the sport he knows next year it is pretty wide open. Doesn't he know that? He should know if he is talking about "what is killing the game," shouldn't he? So how can he say "UCONN is killing the game" when next year it IS what he wants?

But more importantly - hoop is my favorite sport. If "The Dan Fan's" of the world are only interested in close games - and they can't appreciate greatness- he's not the type of writer or fan I want to be associated with in terms of watching or reading the pure pleasure of basketball. And because he is a writer - someone who is consumed by sports- it is sooo disappointing that his main interest has MINIMAL interest in quality. (I love it. I follow this and NBA and WNBA. I only follow UCONN mcbb.) It seems for him, his wrting and evaluation seems it is more important if he can be entertained for a few minutes down the stretch. IS that what I want from a writer for my favorite sport? Someone that can't appreciate greatness under all circumstances? It's a shame he has "such a voice" yet the quality of paly is a bit over his head in terms of he can't sit still enough to enjoy quality at least part of the time.

The Dan Fan is NOT good for WCBB for a fan like me. Not sure how others feel about "Dan Fans." For the 2 hours and reading about it after - I want to stay away from the Dan Fans" of the World.

Except he doesn't actually care about that. He doesn't give a darn about the women's game at all. That's the problem.

Much of the video is quite entertaining, but for those here who can't stomach all the Shaughnessy parts of it, I'll spare you the trouble. His many pearls of wisdom include the following revelation:

"Women's basketball is a little bit of a tough sell, for starters. It's well run, well played, well orchestrated, it's just tough on the eyes for me. I can't really get into it. I know how athletic and great the girls are, I'm not interested in watching it."

Nor, I think we may safely assume, is he interested in what's good for the game, whether it's increased competition or anything else. He's simply trolling, nothing more. And it seems he's trolling rather successfully, because certainly he's managed to garner more attention for himself over the past few days than he in any way deserves. So, good for him, I guess. But let's not kid ourselves. Maybe the game does need more competition, but Shaughnessy doesn't follow the sport, doesn't care about it, and doesn't have a clue about the level of competition within it one way or the other.

Regarding the other no-name radio host, I agree with you completely. I know ESPN recently has had to cut some costs, so I don't really mind their giving radio shows to jokers nobody's ever heard of, but that still doesn't entitle the jokers to make up facts nobody's ever heard of.
