ThIs will seem like a biased opinion, but I agree with his coach. How the heck is he not first-team defense with those stats. I would love to see the guys who beat him.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but coaches want to recognize as many different kids as possible on these All State teams-that includes not naming kids both ways, and often includes naming a player to an All State spot for a position that isn't even their best position.
This is pretty much the norm-at almost all HS programs, the best players play BOTH ways. Yet there are 22 different players on First Team Offense and Defense. It's not because there are 11 defenders better on that side of the ball than the 11 players that made it for Offense. It's because they want to spread around the recognition.
