This file photo attached to a couple of articles from yesterday sparks my curiosity. I have to belief a Texan has an opinion on this. ;)

With no young guards on the Rio team [a mistake imo] I would think the true point guard pool for the World Championships in 2018 would be deep and be looked at very closely. If she adapts well to the WNBA I would hope MoJeff is squarely in the middle of it.

Who is the future US Team Coach? Thinking this could be the last USA BB participation for Geno, Bird, Taurasi, Catchings and many more.

I think unfortunately Bria's career is following the same path that Renee's trod before her. It is still really early to evaluate with Bria but right now she is an OK pro. She and Renee both got a look in with the USA NT team but didn't impress - I suspect Renee will not get another, and Bria's trajectory will need to rise significantly before she does as well.

I do think Moriah is the most intriguing prospect at the moment - I am hoping she can transition her game well into the pros. I was disappointed she wasn't in the NT pool this past season, but think it might have been a plus in the long run - too early exposure at that level might leave bad memories in the minds of evaluators. I did love the pictures of her sitting alone and intently focused on the action at the Feb. trials - it would have been a good thing if Diggins and Sims had done the same.

Rocky,
as much as I love Bria I think there are at least 3 guards ahead of her in the USA basketball evaluation at this point. My order would be healthy Skylar, KMac & Odyssey.

I don't disagree. I was surprised by the file photo. Was she at the February minicamp? The photo inspired the thread to inspire discussion. See, I expected easttexas to threaten secession if Sims were not selected and Bria was in another Geno surprises us and agrees to stay on one more go round, SC's coach's head explodes kind of thing...know what I mean? I guess everyone is sliding into an off season catatonia. ;) 'Course, the day is young, so there is still hope. :)

People have widely predicted it is Dawn Staley. Her guard problems are a red flag for me. Oh, cockhorn???

Also give Mo and Jewel Loyd and another 4 years and watch their stock rise.

Well Geno will definitely be done. He didn't even want a second 4 years. Catchings has said she's done. I imagine Bird will hang it up. DT? I figure she'll try to stay around for at least the WC's. And with the problems at the G position (lack of youngin's), I imagine they will let her.

Also her inability to this point to teach and design an effective, flexible offensive system are red flags for me as well.

It's like two sides of the same coin. Guards and flexible offense.

She'll be 34 in June, so 38 by the time of the Olympics in 2020.

She'll be the coach in 2020. Naw, just kidding. She'll have her hands full taking over from Geno at UConn in 2020.

She was invited to a mini-camp in 2013 in Vegas and again in 2014 but has not been involved in 2015/16.

I will be curious to see who comes next with USA basketball - it used to be alternated between WNBA and College and personally I think Reeves would be a better choice than Dawn from the current assistants.

I like Dawn and she is USA through and through, but I am not convinced of how good a coach she is - I think she would actually be better at the NT or Pro level because the issue I have with her is in teaching and developing her players more than in managing them.

Ditto.....but don't forget the lady standing behind her, Seimone Augustus. Seimone is too hot to handle, and too cold to hold. She's a smart and heady floor general. She will pass, but loves to drive to the basket. When she gets in rhythm, she can put the ball in the basket.......consistently. She's one of the hardest guards to stop in the league. One of my favorites.

By that I also meant having a grasp on an offense that is more than pound it inside. That kind of offense is antiquated and defended well by the host of 2/3, long armed defenses. Geno's offenses are varied and requires good offense minds by both coaches and players. Something Dawn has yet to show.

I believe eventually, Team USA will need the lightning speed, the ability to run the halfcourt and break, the lockdown defense, the uncanny handle, the 3pt shooting, the pull up in the mid-range, the blow by defenders taking it to the iron and award winning smile of Moriah Jefferson.

Yup. Got it the first time. Dawn is something of an enigma, because as a guard "who played at the highest level" ;) she has had plenty of time to put those lessons to work in recruiting and coaching, but it has not happened.
