this is so stupid. who gives a scolership offer to a kid in 8th grade? plus now this kid might not be motivated to do well in high school knowing he already has a free pass to college. i mean.. do they rank 8th graders?

Why is anyone here taking an 8th grader serious? At this point he probably has only basketball considerations. Once the hormones rage, then he'll add the school with the best looking girls. Then when some maturity kicks in he add school logistics and campus. And when his parent(s) weigh in it will be education. And finally when you consider a career (i.e. NBA) then UConn gets in the mix.

Therefore you can't expect any 8th grader to fully grasp the art of recruitment or selecting a college.
