For those who followed Paul Myerberg's Pre-Snap Read last year, he was picked up by USA Today and now writes for them. Thankfully, his annual countdown is still going and the first UConn opponent coming in on the list is Memphis at #116.

Based on his comments on the competition in the AAC, I'm guessing UConn will be ranked somewhere in the 80's or even 90's this year. Anyways, feel free to be offended but in the years I've been reading this guy, he is one of the few who really spends any quality time thinking about teams not in the top conferences.

Yeah, his articles are very enjoyable. The in depth knowledge he has of every team in D-1 is really something to behold.

Memphis seems like they have the right coach going forward in Fuente for their massive rebuilding project.

I would like to say it is a game we should win, but since it is the last game of the season, who knows where either team will be.

I'm of two minds. One side says that Memphis ended last year with a nice little winning streak and showed improvement as they went along. Being their last opponent in that scenario is not good. On the other hand, the schedule they are playing this year is zounds harder than what they played last year. By the end of the season they may just be beat up and ready to throw in the towel.

I'd be interested what people's realistic assessment of where they think UConn will stand this year in terms of ranking among FBS. Given last year's performance, what we lost in terms of talent (and gained in recruiting), the change in caching staff and the 2013 schedule, I have to think we're somewhere in the 80s. I sure hope to be proven wrong.

Somewhere in the 80's is more than fair. That's about 4 or 5 wins. I don't think people are putting enough weight on the 2 CB's we lost last year. People don't seem to think the D will take that big of step back. I do not agree. I pray that I'm wrong and will gladly eat a big pile of crow. Offensively I think we will improve. Will it be enough to overcome the drop defensively that I think we're gonna take? Against a much, much tougher schedule? I have my doubts. 7 wins this year and I will welcome back P in 2014 and throw him a birthday party.

Interesting that despite their horrible recent past, and current resurgence, the writer is suggesting UConn, USF, Temple are possible victories none the less.

Can't actually blame his enthusiasm since neither of the mentioned three are BCS powerhouses.
