Really, really nervous about this team defensively. No one can stay in front of their man on the perimeter. Even Diarra was getting cooked. Samson is pointless out there, an absolute net negative today. Obviously fouls an insane amount, but I have never seen a guy struggle to control a ball more, it’s almost comical to watch. And that tech, although it didnt end up hurting us, was unforgivable. He should not start, and he should realistically get 10-13 minutes a game. Mahaney is not it. At least not now, but I don’t have super high hopes he will be. He was 2x the player his Freshman year, I have no clue what has happened. He looks 15, can’t get by his man, doesn’t have the eye for a pass, and if he isn’t shooting well, he doesn’t add really anything. Ball and McNeeley ended the game well, but 2 guys who have had rave reviews can’t go missing for 30 mins. We can’t have that, we don’t have the killers we had last year. Hurley couldn’t figure out the rotations and starting Samson in the 2nd half was the wrong decision. Then he gets a tech that pretty much lost the game for us. Idiotic, but expected. He was cursing and berating the refs all day, it was bound to come at some point. We don’t need that Hurley. Keep composure, even if it was an awful call, compounding it with more free points literally loses the game. Defense is simply bad, offense was pretty damn static for the most part. Really wanted to get a chance to play Auburn/Iowa state. Maybe we still will, but not happy with what I saw. Again, 4 games against the worst competition in the country likely hurt us.
