I get the feeling that the Melvin Swift recruitment is similar to the Jeff Newberry recruitment. Which is to say, the interest is pretty one-sided.

Great, so when he picks another school the sky is falling posters can say that UConn lost another recruit even though it appears they're not really interested.

It's actually eerily similar to Newberry. Both guys were supposed to visit, then the visit got postponed but "I just need to finalize the new date with Coach Ollie," then crickets. One of the beat guys told me that Uconn's interest in Newberry was lukewarm at best. SInce the staff is now insisting that they are done for 2014 unless something great falls into their lap, I doubt Uconn's a real option for Swift.

It's kinda funny that 247 had him going to Penn State just a couple of weeks ago, now their not even in his top five. I wonder what happened?

He realized PSU is a horrid basketball program, even lower than UMass. I wonder how many of those schools have real interest? Three?

Baylor usually pays for highly rated players and UConn says they are done until spring.

Apparently UMASS is a bubble team this year. I did not know they were on the rise. Good for them. They haven't been relevant since Camby. I had to look it up but I did not know Dr. J went to UMASS.

UConn actually held there own against his UMass teams.
In an article for a sports mag he was asked to assess the teams in the YanCon as the conference received little ink outside of New England.
He had a glowing comments on UConn basketball.

This was after he became a superstars.

I was a bit tongue in cheek on my reply, but the point being that if UConn had interest he'd be up there for a visit. and also, I was commenting on the "all knowing" 247. I guess it didn't come across that way!

FWIW, UConn is on the board for Melvin Swift's crystal ball predictions. Wonder if that's just based on UConn being the best school left on his list or if the writer actually knows something.

FWIW: Flinn is also the 3rd best predictor on the Crystal Ball. He's got an 84% accuracy rate and has the 3rd most points.

So what do the two guys with higher percentages and more points predict?

Sadly, if one is under 30 they probably have no clue as to who DrJ IS/WAS.
Have to disagree with you there... I'm 27 and if you don't know who Dr J is, then it's just because you don't pay attention to basketball. It's not like he's never spoken of anymore...

No other predictions even are for schools he's even considering now. He just cut Penn State and Saint Jospeh's and those were the schools that had his other predictions. However, I thought Penn State was his leader a little while ago so that obviously changed.

"Probably" is the key word in my statement. You are obviously the exception. About 10 years ago MLB polled several players asking them if they knew of Jackie Robinson. Far too high a percentage of players, including black players, had no clue as to who Jackie was.
People relate to players who played while they are fans. Dr J has been retired since the 80's. Many people can't relate to what happened 10 years before they became fans. Glad to see that you are an exception.

It's mind-boggling to be a fan of a sport, but not a fan of the history of that sport. I was born after Dr. J's heyday, but I sure as hell know who he is, his playing style/signature moves, and what he represented in terms of the ABA/NBA merger.

That said, I had no idea he went to UMass. That sort of detail isn't a big part of Dr. J's narrative.

He's going to end up at SMU, even tho through Twitter he does seem sort of high on UConn, not that Twitter means anything.

Can't see him leaving Texas. Think that was a big reason he backed off Xavier. He'd be nice, but I don't think we necessarily need him. Baylor or SMU boun, hopefully SMU to strengthen the AAC.

He didn't back off Xavier. Xavier told him they were no longer interested, for whatever reason.
