I went to the rally - free tickets, all general admission, free parking in South Garage. An opportunity to see the team together once again. I'm guessing Gampel was about 2/3 filled, well over half of the crowd being students. It was a loud, enthusiastic crowd. Cheerleaders and dance team were there, Conor was the emcee of the evening, and things got started pretty much on time. The team walked in to a huge ovation and was seated together on a stage across from the student section. Some memorable video footage was shown on the scoreboards of the UConn Final Four games. Nice remarks from Azzi, Paige and Geno. Paige had the net around her neck. Most notable moments were Paige getting emotional, and Geno praising the student section as being the best in the country. Geno noted in particular that the two NCAA tournament games at Gampel had a final four level crowd intensity and that that helped get them ready for the next two weekends. He ended with a comment about getting another one next year, and the crowd loudly voiced its approval of that idea. It did not last very long at all, maybe 20-25 minutes. As we left the players were throwing balls and t-shirts to the crowd. It was a festive occasion. I felt like we were all basking in their glory, and I was very grateful to be doing so.
