MD loses by 12 to Miami

Riquina Williams was on fire from the arc. Last year, she shot under 40% from the field. Tonight, Shenise Johnson struggled, but Williams did most of the scoring. Miami pulled away in the second half.

Not a big surprise. Maryland has been playing with fire since conference play started. When your margin for error is razor thin, you WILL ultimately fail.

I agree, though I was beginning to wonder. Miami really needed that.

Terps allowed Miami to score FIFTY points in the second half. So much for MD being improved defensively.

I think Maryland may play more defense than they used to, but still not enough.

Against Delaware, they did a decent job on EDD, despite her 32 or so points, but they left the lane wide open for the Delaware guards. Delaware guards-- not Odyssey Sims, Skylar Diggins, or Tiffany Hayes.

Swarm the big girl is, generally, not real defensive skill just a unique one time tactic.

who were the people on our board who kept saying we weren't giving MD enough credit? even after the OT win vs. UNC, others were saying MD was "not that good". no shame in losing to Miami, but giving up 50 points in the 2nd half is not a good sign. i really think the game against Duke will go a long way in determining who is the 2 seed coming out of the ACC... unless somehow a 2nd team earns a 2 seed...

I think Eric just mentioned the 3 teams that are the class of the ACC.

Tech and Florida State are just not having such great years, and obviously ditto UNC. Florida State plays Duke on TV tonight, incidently.

I have to think that Clemson, BC and Virginia Tech are just not very good BB teams at all. Probably not Wake, either.

Virginia and NC State look to be in the middle of the pack with the slackers. I suppose all might have NCAA aspirations except the bottom feeders.

Miami has struggled some. They were flat out embarassed by Georgetown.

UNC looks like a shadow of their former teams.

Duke has nice players and 2 narrow losses against good teams, but thei margins of victory seem much smaller than in past years.

The Terps won 3 close ones against the toughest part of their schedule. Could they lose 3-4 more?

Is the entire conference having a down year? Let's see how UNC and Duke measure up against UConn.

And in other news, UNC, playing on their home floor, loses to
an absolutely terrible Clemson team.

How, in heaven's name, did UNC ever manage to beat Miami?

Oops! Sorry, I didn't see the UNC/Clemson thread below.
