I understand 1 game.
But
he has not played in 18 months. He played pretty well for NC state off the bench. Why not let him get comfortable in a role where his slashing game would be most useful--4-5 minutes in when the other team starts getting winded. He'll start making his jumpshots and it will take pressure off of his game.

I think chemistry wise--from what I watched--playing Cassell with Ryan and Hamilton might just be a good fit. Cassell and *hopefully* Facey will give us the jump-shooting teams need to space the floor.
Then we come in with energy players--Purvis Samuels Nolan

It was 1 game.

Purvis has been practicing with this team for 18 months. He's not a newbie. He shot 39% from 3 (78 shots) at NCSU.

Ollie has a vision of what he wants from this team, and if he's anything like he was with Calhoun last year, he's patient. It will come. We've groused over a lot of players the last several years, including Kemba and Daniels and even Shabazz. Some players develop well with patience. Some never panned out despite getting ample opportunity.

Purvis needs to let the game come to him. He is a such a good athlete he can force the action and produce a positive result. But he will not be able to do that consistently at this level. He needs to do a much better job of picking his spots and recognizing his opportunities.

If he relaxes and lets the game come to him he will be more effective.

You have already had this discussion in the chat and in multiple threads and have been shot down repeatedly. Please stop. Persistence isn't always a good thing.
I agree- herpes is persistent for example.
Dude has not played a game in over a year- had to be so excited- give him time. Relax. Enjoy.

Oh sweet jesus. Was there really a need to start another thread on this when it's been mentioned by 3 of idiots? 1 game in and my head already hurts from boneyard overreaction.

You said it youself... 'I understand 1 game' .... clearly you don't understand.
Purvis will be fine.

Having not watched the game, I think I may have a better perspective on this year's team than many of those who did.

It's one pre-season game.

Purvis hasn't played in a game that matters yet. Last night was a step above practice and they were short handed. There are two more games that don't count where he can get wet up to the waist. Stay calm.

This was SCSU's National Championship game. UConn had everything to lose in this game - we didn't play well because it was an exhibition game and rust must be shaken off.

Purvis will be fine. It takes time.

UConn had nothing to lose in this game (maybe embarrassment, but that's it). It doesn't count against their record.

Although this is true - we certainly didn't have anything to gain.

I think they gained valuable knowledge of where they stand as a team. A lot needs to be done before they board that plane to San Juan.

I'm not drawing any conclusions until Diamond Stone retweets someone about it.

This is a good joke, but I expect it to be beaten into the ground shortly.

I choose to draw my conclusions based on the two First Night scrimmages I saw him dominate rather than the one scrimmage yesterday. Larger sample size...... ;)

That game mattered for a lot of reasons just as the Assumption game will matter. These games are important to the coaching staff as they test combinations and strategies. What doesn't matter yet is a poor performance by one player or another; better to get the bugs out now.

Is anyone else not kind of glad this happened last night? This was nothing more than a wake-up call and a reason for KO to push them harder in the gym

Wearing UConn on their uniforms will not bring Bazz/Kemba magic back. Its all about work effort and team play. This performance will definately push them harder going forward.

Rust, nerves, new teammates are reasons the team wasn't clicking on all cylinders. I have my suspicions that Coach is pushing them real hard already and the team knows it has work to do. No wake up call needed.

What's UConn's record? Will the game vs. SCSU be included when calculating RPI? KenPom? SoS? No, No, and No.

That was post #11. In context with post #14 and #16, I actually agree with you...
