One of them was a 5-star recruit. I don't know if this happening is hard to believe or not.

"The young men charged are indefinitely suspended as we continue to gather information and talk to the appropriate people,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “The University and football program have strict guidelines regarding issues of this magnitude. This behavior is unacceptable for any student-athlete at the University of Alabama and not representative of our football program."

Time will tell.

From the Tuscaloosa paper:

Stupid is as stupid does:

"Williams admitted to police that he punched a student's head and face while Pettway and Hayes stood by and watched. He said that he stole the student's wallet which contained cash, credit cards and a student identification card he said he used to buy snacks from a vending machine in the football player's dorm"

"It was the second trip to jail for Williams this week. Tuscaloosa police charged him with carrying a pistol without a license on Sunday after a disturbance at the BP gas station on the Strip."

This is why some of us on the board say character counts in recruiting players. I don't want players like that on this team, I don't care how many stars they have. What a disgrace.

For one thing, Uconn fans can be thankful for Alabama football taking any media attention away from Uconn and Wolf.

And as others have mentioned, coaches (football moreso than basketball due to the shear numbers) can only control so much regarding player conduct.

Coaches and administrators do have full control over how they handle the situations once they occur though.

They do have full control on who they grant admissions. How many guys you think snorted coke throughout highschool and haven't taken a snort since; or pull a couple of stunts like this in college and did nothing untoward in high school?

Agree that they are accountable for the kids they recruit and the school admits.

But, neither you, me or anyone else on this board can hand select 90 academic scholarship kids at Uconn, Alabama or any other school and guarantee their behavior over a four year education.

What am I saying? Kids do stupid shhchittt regardless of the school or program and there's only so much mitigating a staff can do. But, they definitely have the time and resources on the reacting side of incidents.

Yeah, but they're still National Champs. And UConn still has it's own problems.

Like that? I understand your POV on "big time" football programs. It doesn't matter how many arrests, or low character kids teams bring in, as long as they win the big one. For some of us, bringing good kids in who represent the University well are more important. You can have a successful team with these types of players. Even a championship team, can you believe it?

That's what Notre Dame always says. And they can always claim that Mantai never laid a hand on his girlfriend.

Bamas gonna get the fulmer cup this year by the looks of it
