Did you read the article? Anyone trying to sell an Olympic ring at a mall kiosk and also showing their own ID while doing it isn't very bright, in my book.

I read the article and came to the conclusion that this guy wasn't too bright based on how dumb he was.
1. Trying to sell stolen goods to a franchise jeweler in a shopping mall - dumb
2. Claiming a woman's olympic ring as his - dumber
3. Providing his identification - dumberer
Did I miss the part of the article where it said this guy's fingerprints were found on the ring and a jury convicted him?
It doesn't happen every day, but there are lots of cases where someone uses an ID that does not belong to him. Sometimes the photo is a close match. Sometimes not.
As a private investigator, I recently worked for a guy whose doppelganger had stolen his ID by telling the DMV he needed to replace a lost driving license. The only way we kept our client out of jail was by locating a supervisor who swore -- and had time cards to prove -- that our guy was driving a forklift at his job in another county while the doppelganger was robbing the U-Haul store, unbeknownst to our guy.
The guy in the mugshot that someone just posted here may be the person who tried to sell Maya's ring. Maybe not. He may have stolen it -- or at least known it was stolen. Maybe not. Let's wait for the courts to figure it out.

Everyone is entitled to due process. I'm guessing the police arrested Mr. Olympia based on his appearance on a 1/2 dozen CCTV cameras. Most jewelers have them, especially major jewelry store chains in malls.

Oh please. Anyone who has ever looked at security tapes knows how bad most of them are. And as for the jeweler identifying someone, I have know idea what race he/she was (and neither does anyone else on this forum) but there's 98 years' worth of studies on how cross-racial eyewitness ID is inherently unreliable. Indeed, in 66 of the 216 wrongful convictions that were overturned by DNA testing, cross-racial eyewitness identification was used as evidence to convict an innocent defendant. I'm not saying I think this guy is innocent or that he didn't know where the ring came from. But no one deserves to be convicted by a mob, even on the Boneyard.
