Saw this recently. Huge loss for the program. Not sure what Cavanaugh and the staff did to lose such a top prospect. Poor management of top prospects like this certainly will not help the program get over the hump of winning its first ever playoff game.

Czech kid likes his Korunas, heads home to be paid, and it’s inexplicably viewed as “poor management of top prospects”. CZK that, never happens with European prospects. Hot take!

Serious question: Why exactly did he leave? Was it "poor management" or something else??

More than likely something else outside of the program's control. Unlike other major college sports, hockey players have numerous options of places to play at a "junior" level and get paid to do so. On top of that, these places are all located outside of the US so the NCAA has zero ability to prevent those leagues from contacting players, offering contracts, offering bonuses, etc.

An unfortunate side effect of a program growing in stature and bringing in higher level recruits is those kids will have Canadian and European handlers/team reps in their ear offering them stuff all the time. A handful of those kids will leave.

They haven’t played their first exhibition game so it’s unlikely that anything the staff did was responsible. I have no info in this case, but some kids decide they don’t like going to school any more and skip to hockey-centric development options like major-junior or European leagues.
