Ok let me get something off my chest-

2. I clicked it and the very first thing we see is what? An EMPTY SEATING SECTION BEHIND SLOCOM!
3. The Final Four tickets are even harder to get as ALL schools get an opportunity to buy some and the tickets have been on sale since the beginning of the season, I also don't think that the participating schools get more than the 100.
4. "Don't expect a hostile environment against Oregon" in Bridgeport? Oh yeah, all the UConn fans will be quietly watching, enjoying a friendly tet without an interest...
5. They were familiar with Duke's system...why would you even say that in this article?
6. I get this is a fluff piece to pull in the casual observer but shouldn't the writer and editor be smart enough to be somewhat informed when presenting some of this?

This idle time is killing me. I need to rewatch UConn: March to Madness on line to reduce my anxiety...

As to your item #2, watching the game when Slocum made the ridiculous 70 ft shot to end the first half, virtually the entire section behind MD's basket was empty...and this was a HOME GAME for MD.

Personally, I will be there rooting for the Ducks. I would enjoy seeing our huskies play new teams. However, from past experience many people will not show up for the first game. Those who are there will watch without bias, unless it is close going into the 4th quarter. Then I believe husky fans will root full bore for Oregon. Back in 2004 we sat near the group from CALIFORNIA in hartford. The pep bad and cheerleaders were a blast along with their fans.

Cal used to have one of the coolest bands around and I suspect it's still that way. Called the Straw Hat Band, they're every bit as irreverent as their counterparts to the south, the often-and-currently suspended Stanford band.

It's been a long time since I lived in California and attended a Cal game. Purdue was visiting, with Joe Barry Carroll, and Jason Kidd was in his first of two years playing at Cal. Purdue was in their shoot-around when the Cal Straw Hat Band marched in, maybe a hundred strong. They followed one sideline, turned left at the half-court line, and then left again. Left again at the baseline and they had the Purdue players surrounded in one half of the court. All this time loudly blaring the Cal fight song. Slowly, they began squeezing in, until after a few minutes the Purdue guys were stuck in the key. The fans were all standing and clapping, and pretty soon everybody, including the Purdue team, was laughing. Great fun.

Another time at a very sparsely attended Cal volleyball match, five or six members of this band showed up. They spread themselves out, sitting one each in the far upper corners of old Harmon gym. After a while, one member would stand up and raise his arms. Ten seconds would go by, and another one, in an adjacent corner, would do the same. Finally it became clear that they were doing The Wave, with just a handful of people. This was when the Wave was almost brand new, and it was hilarious.

Malina Howard played in her fourth and last year of eligibility at Maryland last season. She was a big post who didn't score much but had her minutes and game improve each season. I know of her beca---use she's an Ohio girl who combined with Purdue's Ashley Morrisette to win two big school state titles at Twinsburg.

I mention this because during last season I heard announcers say several times that Howard had finished her undergrad classes in three years and was enrolled in either premed work or actual medical school. So, kudos to her and the Maryland program for that, if nothing else.

I often preach about the old time UConn teams of Pre Med, Engineers---I enjoyed them and respected them.
So any kid , as Jones is supposed to be doing, doing difficult class work and time plus high power basketball--earns my true respect. It's near impossible to finish with degree of any kind in 4 years with the schedules they must follow, with practices, travel, tournament, community, hospitals, etc they have an overwhelmingly busy life.
If you run into Morrisete again--offer my high regards for her goal. I told my kids, they did what they wanted after that, that a BA/BS was not enough for most high level occupations ---and I also believe College isn't for all or many --good technical schools will give you a good well paid life--so I respect EDUCATION .

Why do I keep reading out of state articles that say the Bpt arena seats less than 8,000? Webster's website clearly says 10,000 and that has always been my understanding. Webster, Mohegan Sun, and Gampel all seat nearly the same and that's not bad, especially when filled with UConn fans.

Been wondering the same thing. Articles from prior years seem to consistently say something like 9180.

I think their system is probably like the Courant's, and most likely I have just clicked too many links from that paper this month. Hope it resets like the Courant does, but then the season will be over except for the accolades

I agree. Especially about technical schools. Robots won't figure out plumbing for at least another couple of generations. Trust me on that. Just like the sunscreen thing. Plumbing, in the age of robotics, is the new "plastics."

Gotta say I want Oregon as a new experience. If they beat Maryland they will be jacked and it will just add to the rush of the game.

PS. On edit, it occurs to me I just looked beyond the next opponent; hair shirt, self-flagellation and ashes for me!

Native Americans, or as you call them First People, have many more methods to handle your --miss-speak--much better--but very close to ashes.
However, since my DNA came back with no First People blood--your comments didn't not over look UCLA or MD on the road to Oregon--
Even I have been wishful thinking about playing Ducks---a new experience--having raised them, I think we'll spend a lot of time cleaning up after them. My hope is that Jackie Robinson does not influence UCLA for this game-- I'm sure Ruta Lee will be cheering her allens Mater---that the Ducks fly all over Maryland --even into the Bay but stay clear of the "Ramparts Red Glare".

That is the student section. Kids were off for Spring Break. Those seats are not available for general sales.
