Marquette, now 17-4, is playing it's best ball of the season. I watched them defeat Creighton the game before this. The Blue Jays had just beaten DePaul (on the road, I believe) and Marquette handled them easily, so this win didn't shock me. Did it surprise me that the Warriors outscored DePaul by 7 in each of the last two quarters? Yes, but they play pretty good defense and rebound very well as a team.

Nice combo of upperclassmen (Selena Lott, Lauren Van Keunen) and sophomores (Camryn Taylor, Jordan King) led the way here. Lott has improved every year she's been at Marquette and she's got some length at the guard position. Taylor, a 6'3" post, shoots efficently and rebounds well.

Coach Megan Duffy has largely inherited teams at both her HC stops (Miami of Ohio, now Marquette), but she's proven to pull together what she's got quickly into teams that win 20 games. Remember, every starter from Carolyn Kieger's last team gradduated, so Duffy was molding players who rarely saw the floor.

And to think that sophomore class was also supposed to include Shemera Williams, who pulled out after Carolyn Kieger left for Penn State. (On the other hand, since Williams also left UVA for USC after one year, maybe that's not a bad thing.) Duffy landed her first top 60 prospect when forward Kendra Gillispie committed for 2021.
