I believe this year will be a challenge for Marisa, just like it was for Geno and CD. But I think she will be able to turn it around for BU, she might even finish better then the projected 9th place once the team gets to gel together under game situations. Remember the players have new coaches, new plays, and only a couple of months to get used to them.

Have a lot of roots in the Patriot League and believe it will take several years for Marisa to turn around. Was surprised when she took this job. A few points:
-BU Men's Basketball rarely draws over 1000 and plays in a high school size gym. If a 40,000 student university can't draw in most non-hockey sports, would be rare to see a woman's program succeed. Facilities are sparse.
-Bucknell has a relatively new coach in past 4-5 years who is doing a fine job of recruiting. Army also has had a Top 25 team in recent years. Several others are starting to do well and have a major head start on BU. Patriot League women's sports typically not Top 20 but surprisingly competitive.
-With new coach and assistants, likely it will take 2-3 more years before recruiting changes. BU has traditionally focused on North East recruits. Not a big pond to fish in and BU doesn't have much brand awareness outside.

I'm hoping she can use her UCONN angle to land some recruits. Those kids will know that she can make them better. And perhaps some good lower level D1 talent will think her name recognition is very cool.

She completely changed worlds. I'm crossing my fingers for her.

One other issue is that the Patriot League has an academic index that effectively prevents a women's team from recruiting at least 80% of D1 talent. (90% on the men's side.) Believe it or not, a number of the UConn women over the years could not be recruited to the Patriot League.

Army has never been a top 25 team, but they had a good team in 2016. That team was led by Kelsey Minato, one of the two best players ever produced by the Patriot League. Since then, however, Army basketball has been in a state of decline and is picked for 7th in the league this year. Bucknell is the favorite and American in recent years has been good.

Btw, Boston U is much larger than other PL schools and outspends all of them in many sports - except for Army and Navy. That is why they dominate women's soccer and field hockey. However basketball is the one PL sport where there is a level playing field.

If you had ever been to a Univ Boston men's game with 800 alumni (no students) in a gym smaller than most high schools, you would understand the challenges she faces. Academic achievement is an asset in most Patriot League women's recruiting with facilities and student support much higher at schools like Bucknell (ie. Boston U does outspend most Patriot League teams but not in basketball). Number of students has never helped the men's teams and doubtful it will help the Boston U women's team.
