Changing of the Guard (or Center) - UConn Making Changes for Next Season
By ALLEN FISHER
The Hartford Courant
3:28 p.m. EDT, April 1, 2012

STORRS - With a postseason tournament ban, an uncertain future for Coach Calhoun, and the possibility of several players jumping ship and heading elsewhere all looming large, things have been anything but steady for the UConn men's basketball team as of late. Despite all of these question marks, Huskies fans now have at least one thing to feel good about - a UConn legend coming back to join the coaching staff.
Jonathan Mandeldove, a stand-out center who played for the Huskies from 2006-2010, has recently been offered a position as an assistant coach with UConn - an offer which he enthusiastically accepted. While Mandeldove could not yet be reached for comment, Assistant Coach George Blaney was interviewed by telephone this morning and helped to fill in some of the blanks. "We are absolutely delighted to have Jonathan coming back to join our coaching staff. As a young man who deeply exemplifies everything UConn basketball stands for, he will prove to be a huge asset for us next season. I think many people have already forgotten what an instrumental role he played in our 2009 Final Four run, carrying the team on his shoulders both on and off the court. After all Jonathan has done for our program, we feel this is the very least we can do to start giving back to him. He's a guy with immense people skills who relates well to just about everyone and who has the utmost respect from our players and fans."
Only time will tell if the steadying influence Mandeldove's presence will bring to next year's team will be enough to get UConn's basketball program back on track, but one thing is certain - Joober Jones has way too much time on his hands if he's able to waste an afternoon on such a pathetic attempt at an April Fool's Day prank.

a stand-out center? did he ever even play?
edit: damn, didn't read the whole article

I applaud the effort, Joober, but I didn't buy it for a nanosecond.

It's impressive how you did that. I read the title then suddenly the letters morphed and spelled "An April Fools Day thread"... :-)

Not sure, but seems like April's Fools is lamer every year.

The tournament ban extending to 2014 thread had me for a second until I realized what day it was. The key there is there is no end to the evil and incompetence of the NCAA so it was almost believable. This just wasn't even close to believable. Good effort with the article though.

If nothing else I got an LOL out of this: "carrying the team on his shoulders both on and off the court"
