Interesting that they waited this long. Hurley said in early August that Smith could have practiced at the end of the 2nd summer session but they were going to wait until the first semester started. That was over 4 weeks ago. Hopefully they were just being extra cautious.
 
He’s gonna be awesome in his role. A player I’ve liked for a couple years even before Dayton beat us in Maui. Steady hand, good defender, great distributor. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s playing at the end of games over Mullins/Stewart (depending on lineups, of course).

He played in the season ticket holder scrimmage on 8/30. I don't know if this is actual news (maybe he got a further clearance after playing for a while) or Rothstein decided to check in with somebody and they updated him so he tweeted it out like it just happened.
