I still think Philly is the front runner. The 76ers are trying to get a downtown arena and have said they’d add a W franchise. The NBA will want them to get the arena so they’ll steer the W to them.

But now both Fertitta (Houston) and Mahomes (KC) also seem to be in the running.

That will likely push the franchise fee higher.

And will any existing owners seek to cash out while the W is hot?

I hope Connecticut and LA will cash out. Those franchises better go all in on their teams or they won’t see a return to the top any time soon. There are just too many franchises investing Millions of dollars into their teams. The competition for free agents is going to be intense and after the new CBA and 4 new teams it’s going to crazy.

If the Mohegans cash out, that franchise is leaving CT.

I think the league is overexpanding if they add another in the next couple of years. The Connecticut sun and Atlanta dream stand out to me as franchises that maybe have limited growth potential.

Maybe buy one of those franchises and move it to Kansas City? I prefer that idea.

LA needs to figure out their front office situation big time. It's been a mess since Derek Fisher was hired and it's never recovered. It's unfortunate too considering what the Sparks have accomplished since they came into existence. I don't get it.

The Sun bring folks to the casino. It’s probably a small percentage of the fans who gamble, but I think they’re still a motivating factor for the tribe to keep the team.

I like the idea of the Mahomes looking to invest in a WNBA team. The market in Missouri is going to be the question. How interested are the fans in women's basketball in Missouri?

I think the casino would sell for the right price. The collective bargaining agreement could have clauses that require franchises to spend a certain amount of money on practice facilities, travel, locker rooms, etc.

If mahomes and Kansas City. Or if Boston swooped in with an attractive offer. I think that ownership group could be swayed.

They should reach out to the Mohegan tribe. Clearly they don’t have any sense of sports management given their malfeasance over the Stephanie White giveaway….

Are people in WNBA-land really okay with Brittany Mahomes' potential WNBA involvement? Maybe they don't know enough about her to have formulated an opinion at this point, but I can't see them being okay with her if they weren't okay with others (namely one who previously owned the lone WNBA team in the Southeast).

Have seen a few things pop up about concerns here.

Seems a little different from ATL in that their owner was a public servant (a US senator no less), while Mahomes is a private citizen.

I'm sure the W is happy to have multiple interested parties for the remaining expansion slot.

Why do people come onto a UConn board and advocate for Connecticut's only major league sports team to be taken away? This is inappropriate. People take such liberties with us when it comes to things like this.

From what I can tell some of these opinions are coming from UConn fans. They're musing based on how markets are performing. Not sure how liberties are being taken against the fanbase here.

If the actual business is struggling with respect to the Mohegan tribe, people will question the feasibility of the team staying in Connecticut. Also, considering how the team is somewhat hampered with facilities, like what happened during the play-offs where the team had to wait for a birthday party to finish, these are fair questions/concerns. The standard expected of teams are going up.
