M0LLY & #10

I dunno...but I'm thinking Molly is going to be pretty darn good at UConn. She came out of nowhere. Haven't seen her play, except in videos that disappeared as soon as she oraled. But I have a big, big gut feeling that that number 10 may be just the number for her to wear.

Speaking of [jersey] numbers, the article says that "...number 18 is unavailable in college basketball."

Does anyone know what that's about?

Most likely #18 is like any number including a digit of 6, 7, 8, or 9, none of which is permitted. Highest jersey number allowed is 55. All below 55 are limited to use of a number or combination of 1-5 only. Zeroes are acceptable.

Oh, right! - I had forgotten about the general proscription for numbers > 5

Referees only have so many fingers :p

Unless your playing international ball. ;)

There are certain numbers that coaches unofficially retire for a number of reasons. I am betting "10" for the Huskies is one of those numbers.

.-.
Yeah but who of note ever wore those numbers?

Biff, surely you jest!

Even I can identify Willnet Crockett, Maya Moore and Kaleena as wearing #23.

And Diana, Tiff and I believe Morgan wearing #3.

Why? He didn't "unofficially retire" #23 or #3.

It may have something to do with Sue being the greatest point guard in the history of the game. Also IMO, I think she is his favorite all-time player.

Time will tell if I or you are write.

She doesn't even make the Mt Rushmore of UCONN players. ???????

10 is a very popular jersey number these days... no reason to ask in the past!

It's related to the # of fingers on a single hand of human referee's.

.-.
I don't think the coaches are overly sentimental about numbers - players yes, but numbers no. No reason not to allow someone to have that number in my mind and I like Sue's comment - if you are good enough for Geno to offer you a scholarship, then you are good enough for me. End of story.

Numbers smumbers..... the only one who cares is that egotistical A...never mind...of a coach at Duke.:oops:

It is one thing to accuse Biff of jesting, but you have no business calling him Shirley!!!!

Sue is not only a stupendous player, she is a stupendous person. However, she is now only the second-best point guard in the history of the game. Taking nothing away from Sue, the best is now playing at UConn.

This quote just made me smile:

"At school we have this ‘Sue Bird Drill’ that we go up and down the court and then shoot a pull-up jumper."

Sometimes it is easy to forget just how profoundly our girls have impacted the game. I ought to know better, I've been to many girls AAU tournaments and almost every team has a set called "Connecticut."

Hartley and Renee mastered that "Sue Bird Drill"
